Ovulation at 40, stopped?!

I am 40 and our baby is 9 months old. It took me 9 months to get pregnant, I was perfectly ovulating every single month we tried and everything was fine with me and my husband. I got pregnant the month i used the fertility gel and also i took some Chinese herbs for fertility for 20 days, who knows, coincidence or it really worked!

I had a great pregnancy, baby was very healthy, no problems so far. We decided to go for the second baby now and the last three months the ovulation test was negative (never had problems with this before, the tests were always positive). I am feeling a bit nervous, do i stop ovulating?! as i know you are much more fertile after pregnancy but it seems it is not in my case!! At the moment there is no point of doing any treatment as i do not have eggs (I think!), but i have heard about some injections to make you ovulate.. is this true? can you get this ones in a private clinic?

Thanks!

Don't worry but do get on with looking into it. Are you still breastfeeding - that stopped my ovulation which was not an issue as I was having babies in my 20s and had a lot of time. Keep having sex every few days through your whole cycle. Perhaps ask your GP to check too if you are ovluating.

There is such a thing as natural spacing and I do wonder if that is responsibility for a lot of secondary infertility, unfortunately age also has a bearing.

Did you breast feed? Are you breast feeding? I assume you are menstruating but not showing a positive result on an opk? Which opks are you using? I could never get a positive using internet cheapies but have got the smiley face and subsequent temp rise on a bbt chart that indicates I have definitely ovulated the last two months.

Sorry I meant to add - using clearblue ovulation sticks.

ooh yes, i forgot! I breastfeed and bottle feed for the first five months with no period. When my baby decided no more, i got the period. If i squeeze my nipple i still have some drops of milk, but i stopped breastfeeding four months ago. Do you think i am not ovulating because of this drops?

Yes, i am menstruating and using the cheap ones this time. I always used the clearblue ones but this time i wanted to save a bit! I might try clearblue ones again i think. Anyway i might go to my GP, i don't think they will be able to do something....

No. I think the fact you can still squeeze a drop which I could a year after stopping breastfeeding does not mean that is the cause.

I think you should see the GP. Also are you trying to get pregnant - having unprotected sex?

Yes, i am trying to get pregnant for the last three months.
Someone told me it can be high blood prolactin concentration.. Yes, I think i will go to my GP tomorrow. I am 40 and i basically do not want more kids after i turn 42, to be more specific, like latest in 2014!

Yep you're right, it is to do with high prolactin but I wouldn't worry re. being able to still squeeze some milk out. I don't think that will have any impact.
