How long to go back to normal cycle after coming off contraception?

Hey, totally new to this site but hoping for some advice. Came off the pill last month and wondered how long (I know it won't be the same for everyone) till I get back to a normal cycle that I can track!

I've been off it since Oct 9th and still waiting but it's only been 4 weeks. Generally it really seems to depend on the person. Could be a month, could be a year (!!) but advice I've found is if you don't have a period for 6 months you should visit your GP but most women do within 3 months. Hope that helps

Hi Betty. I came off the pill on 23 Sept, had my withdrawal and then AF on 26 Oct. I obviously don't know yet if my cycles are back to normal but i thought this was a good sign. Fx your cycle gets back to normal quickly.

Hi Betty I stopped taking mine 19th September (cerazette) I didnt have periods while taking this pill and no withdrawal either. I then had very very light bleeding 19th October which lasted about 5-6 days. I'm pretty sure I ovulated around CD13 which is good but its too early to tell if things are back to normal. Good luck x

Hi rosiegal. I very much doubt that as there hasn't been much trying going on. DP wants a September onwards baby so got to hold out ;-) It works out quite well really in a way as I'm managing not to get as stressed about things. That will probably all change in Dec/Jan though.

Hey! I came off microgynon 2 weeks ago had my week break, with a withdrawal bleed and the last week I've just been waiting to see what happens!

Woke up this morning with pains in my lower back and stomach. Just dull pains, but annoying. Also have had a headache off and on for the last few days. Was quite bad last weekend but just comes and goes now. I'm putting it down to coming off the pill and the hormones being crazy! Had been on the pill for nearly 10 years, so expecting my body to take a while to adjust, although secretly hoping it won't!!

I came off Microgonyn 30 in April and I've only had 3 periods in that 6 months. My cycle lengths have been 46, 35, 46 and 52 days. Thinking of going to see the doctor soon, difficult trying to conceive when you such variable and few opportunities!

bisto Opks can help you find out when and if you're ovulating, even with long cycles. And temping can help confirm it. Have you used any of those?

For me, it was about 9 months before anything at all happened. Sorry, that's probably not what you wanted to hear....

The last time I stopped taking the pill, I had a withdrawal bleed then nothing for another 9 months. Periods were pretty irregular for a long time after that as well. I wasn't trying to conceive then so didn't really care. Just stopped taking the pill again one week ago, nothing at all as yet! But the doctor said not to worry, she can give me some drugs to kick start ovulation if it doesn't sort itself out soon.

Thanks VJones I've got some opk sticks which I will be trying out for the first time this weekend.

I'm using a period log app which is working out my cycle using the average over the last 6 months. I'm day 24 just now and should ovulate around Tuesday.

My cycle resumed 25 days after last pill withdrawal bleed. Another 25 days later I got my bfp.

Hi i came off Marvelon in August - had normal withdrawel bleed - then 30 days and very very light spotting, now it's been 28 days and more light bleeding (heavier than last time). Think It just takes a while but if you get any sort of pattern - even if different than what you are used to its good news!! My doc said if you don't get anything by three months they can give you something to help regulate.

I came off Microgynon at start of August and started AF within a week, got my first proper AF on 16th Oct but don't actually think I've ovulated yet so in guessing it means my cycles aren't back to normal! I suppose it depends how long you've been on the pill for too? I was only 18 months but it still seems like it's taking forever! Everyone is different though....

hi, ive been off the pill for 5 months now, i have always gotten a period each month but long cycles, was 28 days on dot before starting the pill 9 years ago, now my cycles range from 32-38 days. hoping it settles soon. just bought a clear blue fertility monitor to help calculate when i ovulate, apparently day 24 this month, so we are dtd as much as possible just now!!!

My period came before I used the ovulation sticks! So that's a 25 day cycle this month...

I came off cerazette a few days ago and am waiting for AF...am 99% sure no bfp this month (too soon, not that lucky etc.) Am hoping things get back to normal quite quickly - I was a 27 day girl regular as clockwork (could almost pinpoint it to lunchtime). Bisto I've downloaded an app too - I reckon I may need it!

Which app did you go for rach? I use the iPhone app "Period Log", I would be lost without it! There's no way I'd be able to keep track of my irregular periods.

hi bisto it's called my calendar I think. It's a bit girly and twee for me but it does the job, plus you have to put a code in to open it which means oh can't scare himself silly with things such as ewcm!

4 days late but af from hell about to commence :( on the plus side it means my cycle's back to normal so that's only 2 months after coming off the pill!!

Hi all, I came off Cerazette back in July. Ive been 6 months with normal AF starting about 24 days into my cycle. This past month tho, I've had constant irregular bleeding since 5th Jan, which has been light, with AF starting last week. I'm now back to light bleeding again. Starting to feel really tired, all all I can think about is TTC. I'm sure I'm driving all my friends mad asking for advice but no one seems to have the answer. Just wondered if anyone on Mumsnet can help or give me some advice. x
