Is there anyone else out there struggling to get a positive on an OPK? Been trying every day for 2 months now to no avail.... Seriously doing my head in! Contemplating packing it in and just going back to the old fashioned ways.... Confused

It doesn't work for everyone. Did you get a period in the meantime?

tinaw20 · 03/11/2013 18:55

Yeah got my last one on CD28 so have been working on the concept that I'm fertile CD12-18 ish... I'm sure my last cycles before starting the pill were around 34 days though so maybe it's just gona take me a few months to regulate?

What brand are you using and what time of day are you testing?

BumWad · 03/11/2013 19:17

Single OPK tests never worked for me so I tried the CBFM, I have always had highs and peaks on that.

rosiegal · 03/11/2013 19:33

Yes me too tinaw! I've got some of those internet cheap things and the only thing I've had is a line so faint I think I imagined it. I've only been off the pill since September so I'm still trying to figure out my cycle. I had a period 19th October and I started to see symptoms of ovulation around cd13 (cramps, achey joints and a change in my cm) but the OPK were still showing nothing. I've been dtd every other day to cover all bases so I'm not sure if I've actually ovulated and that it just wasn't picked up by the strip. I've seen some comments on here where ladies have got a negative and then a positive a few hours later. I've tempted to go down the cbfm route but as they're quite expensive I'll see how I get on first. I find it really useful to keep a diary of any symptoms so you have something to go on other than the OPK. Good luck Smile

tinaw20 · 03/11/2013 19:38

It's just cheapies I got from Amazon! Pack of 50 as I need to test everyday to figure out my O date... I haven't had any obvious symptoms so have just been going by my CM but even that hasn't been very productive this month! However I'm incredibly moody and constantly hungry today so hoping that means I O'd over last couple days... Have been dtd every other day over last week so really hope it's worked!!!

Dtd every two days throughout your cycle should cover it if in doubt. I used opks for the first two cycles but stopped this month because, even though they worked for me, the anxiety and obsessing were getting too much for me. This month, I have just used cm and cp to figure out when I'm fertile but am going to continue dtd every other day just in case. Good luck.

cookielove · 03/11/2013 21:17

The first month using OPK's i didn't get any + at all, the second month of using them i got a + and also followed the SMEP which got me a BFP, could be complete coincidence to be fair or everything working at the right time!

tinaw20 · 03/11/2013 21:45

Yeah I said the same thing to DH a couple days ago,it's too much pressure using the OPKs so as soon as I run out I'm going to do without. I really can't tell which CP I'm in so can only rely on CM which is quite inconsistent at times... I only came off the pill in August so it could just be my body isn't back to normal yet but I was only on it for 18 months so I hope it won't take long! Good luck to all!!! X

I used these for months a few years ago - after years of trying (and failing) to get pregnant. I used cheapies that I got in a pk of 50 over the internet and assumed they were at fault as I never got a positive. One month I had what felt like ovulation pain (my first time experiencing it) I used an OPK and it was a screaming POSITIVE! I dtd and got pregnant. I kept mine in a record over the preceeding two months and in the 60-odd days that was the only positive but really the pain was more indicitive so maybe the timing of using the opk makes a difference. Also: it was a boy which follows the theory that you will concieve a boy on the day of ovulation and a girl in the following days which made for the OPK's to be an interesting study I was grateful for that crutch of using OPK's but I don't know how much I'd depend on them if in that situation again.

MillyONaire · 03/11/2013 21:55

PS I hadn't gotten a positive earlier that day nor the next morning either - that's how precise the conditions for the positive were (I thought).

Trinpy · 03/11/2013 21:57

Definitely try without. Both times I conceived were the only 2 months in 1.5 years of ttc when I wasn't sure when I ovulated due to opks not showing a peak. No crazy amounts of dtd either.

Could be a coincidence but it worked for me.

tinaw20 · 03/11/2013 22:05

Well I was going to keep trying until CD 22, just to be on the safe side (defo not letting the negative results put me off!) but my CM has completely dried up so I think that means I must have ovulated already?!

OP posts:
VJONES1985 · 03/11/2013 22:09

If you had egg white cm (clear and stretchy) and it's now gone then, yes, I would say you probably ovulated but I would suggest you continue dtd regularly just in case.

tinaw20 · 03/11/2013 22:12

I only got ewcm once this cycle, had loads of it last time! I just went with the days my cm was quite watery. Haven't dtd since Friday and I won't see DH until Tues eve now so hope that's not too late!

Not sure how sensitive your tests are, but I was getting the same thing with a 50 pack off Amazon, the test was rated at 20miu and all I ever saw was very faint lines. Recently I switched to tests with a sensitivity of 10miu and these seem to be far more accurate for me.

babyrose · 04/11/2013 16:45

I recently tried asda own brand and thought they were quite good.

tinaw20 · 04/11/2013 16:50

First time I used tescos own but think I left it too late to start testing! No idea what make these ones are, they come from china! I thought I must have O'd already as CM dried up but been getting bad cramps today, so maybe it's today? Can you still ovulate with no CM though?

OP posts:
babyrose · 04/11/2013 18:57

This month I've had cm from cd8 til 12 and opk's tested + from cd11 (8pm) til cd13 and it looks like the surge was over cd14.

VJONES1985 · 04/11/2013 19:09

tinaw - some women have cm around their cervix and nowhere else so it could be possible that you have it around there.

tinaw20 · 04/11/2013 19:17

Well I took another OPK test when I got in from work and it was negative :( but DH had to rush off to work so didn't have time for any BDing anyway, and haven't done it since Friday! Just hope that was enough!!

Hi there, I share your confusion. I use ones that I got from amazon and I really dont think I have had a positive yet and I have been using them sporadically over the last few months. I am quite clueless as to when I am ovulating exactly but have an app that is quite helpful and gives me a rough idea. Have kinda given up with the opk's as there are so many colour options for - and + tests I am never quite sure!

My husband works away two weeks at a time and then is home for 3 weeks, so finding it really difficult to match dtd with my cylce!! Roughly a year we have been trying now and everything is driving me nuts! Argh

tinaw20 · 05/11/2013 14:21

Yeah I'm giving up on them entirely, it's demoralising getting a constant negative but I'm finding the apps useless too as they won't tell me anything unless I mark a positive ovulation test!! Been getting really bad PMS symptoms over last 24hrs which is odd as I'm not due until next week and I never normally feel this rough so early!? Don't want to get my hopes up thinking its implantation tho....

I kept thinking i was getting negatives all the time but realised I wasn't leaving them long enough before looking back at them (these are the cheapy amazon ones). Started getting positives now i'm less impatient.
