new and confused and going CRAZY on Google....

Hiya! Have spent the last fortnight trawling through both this site and Google because I've been too nervous to write a post and just ask for advice!!! Im ttc for the first time, have got a DS who's 8 but I never actually TRIED for him, so this is the first time I've actively ttc and im totally confused about the whole ovulation/implantation/when to test kind of stuff. I hope someone can help...

I was on the Cerazette pill for years and came off it at the beginning of October. I had a withdrawal bleed straight away for a couple of days which ended on 11th October. Have been dtd since then, without protection, as often as possible. I've read loads about how coming off cerazette can trigger pregnancy symptoms so have put my back ache/pains in legs/bloatedness down to that (altho I have been hoping a little bit...oh, who am I kidding, I've been symptom spotting to DEATH for the last week or 2!!!!!)

Anyway, this morning I thought AF had arrived, have had cramps etc the last couple of days and this morning when I wiped there was what I thought was my period. But it was just that once, nothing else all day. Im massively bloated, and have been havin cramps and major back ache all day. I did a test yesterday teatime which was negative, but am not sure if a) this morning was an implantation bleed? b) it'd be too early to test anyway? c) it's even possible to get pregnant so quickly after comin off the pill? or d) im actually going CRAZY??!!

Have got no idea of my cycle because I didn't really bleed when on cerazette, but have basically had 3 weeks of unprotected sex now. How often do you all POAS? If this morning WAS an implant bleed (fingers crossed!!!!) how soon can I retest after yesterday's BFN?????

Sorry for the essay!! I just need to talk to someone about it before I scream!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) xxxx

Hi Justpenny I'm afraid I cant offer you any advise but my circumstances are similar so maybe its helpful for you to know that you're not alone. I came off cerazette 19th September after about 2 years on it and I didnt bleed the whole time, prior to taking that I was on microgynon. I didnt bleed until 19th October and it was extremely light, like only a teeny amount of red but then just brown spotting (sorry if tmi!) It lasted about 5 days and I still dont know if it was withdrawal or an actual period, I've never had heavy periods. I've had back ache symptoms, needing to wee lots and a bit of cramping a few weeks ago. I did poas 26th October but that was bfn and I've got absolutely no preg symptoms now so think I've ruled that out. I'm now trying to work out my cycle and when I ovulate in order to plan things. I'm trying to keep an eye on cm and have bought some ovulation sticks online but all negative so far (only started this monday). I know exactly how you feel and am going quietly nuts even though its only been a few weeks. Good luck to you xx

Thank you so much for replying!! AF arrived this morning so what I thought was implant bleeding was obviously just wishful thinking. Its mad to think that I got pregnant with my DS totally by accident when I was ON the pill....and now after 3 full weeks of dtd with no protection nothing happens! I found a thread about cerazette and some people had said they got pregnant in the first 2 weeks of comin off it so I was hopin i'd be the same!! obvs not :( what else are u doing other than tracking ur ovulation? Are you eating healthy etc? it was my DS's 8th birthday yesterday so I've lived on birthday cake for the last 24 hrs! xx

I'm sure birthday cake is good for you, if only for the happy mood it induces. Well I'm a pretty healthy eater but I do enjoy a glass of wine or two at the weekend (sometimes more than 2 if I'm honest!) I try to get plenty of fresh veg and always cook from scratch in the evening for myself and OH. I've heard that certain foods are good for fertility but I think I'll wait a bit longer before going down that route, it just seems like one more thing to obsess over. I did another ovulation stick this evening which was negative and I've got practically no cm. If my cycle is 28 days then my ovulation should be 2nd Nov (had a bleed starting 19th Oct) These are only a guess, prior to taking the pill my periods were light and regular so hopefully I fall back into that pattern. My mum never suffered with bad periods either but as I havent told anyone about ttc I cant ask for advise lol. Sorry to hear about AF, at least it gives you something to work by and you know something is happening down there. Every cloud and all that! x

Justpenny · 30/10/2013 22:59

What does 'cm' mean? Im new to all this and still don't know all the lingo! I need to sign up to one of those fertility calculator things I think because I've got no idea of how to work out when i'm ovulating or anything like that...
I know what u mean about not having something else to obsess about, but now I've decided I want another baby I want it NOW...or yesterday!! :) xxx

I'm sorry, cm = cervical mucus (mmmmmm) Apparently an egg white consistency is the most fertile as its helps the little swimmers along to the egg. I've read loads about how it changes depending on where you are in your cycle. There's info about ovulation signs on this site or you can google. I've been keeping a record in a diary too but its all a bit of guess work as still not sure if my bleed was a period. Be warned, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. I dont ever remember being told it was this hard while at school, back then I thought I could get pregnant if a boy looked at me the wrong way!

Justpenny · 31/10/2013 20:28

Omg so did I!! haha! I went to a really strict catholic school and literally thought that brushing past a boy in the street would get me pregnant! If only it was that easy in real life eh?! Its mad that I've been on the pill and if I've ever missed 1 i'm meant to use additional protection for 7 days so as not to get pregnant...but now I want it to happen and have literally been bonkin away and nothing! Oh well...maybe next month!!

Keep positive, I think thats best and it really is early days for both of us. I've had some interesting things happen this afternoon, late afternoon I noticed my cm was a bit slimey (sorry!) also having some cramp like pain around my ovary area and I've also got really achey knees. All of which seem to fit with ovulation symptoms so I'm keeping my fingers crossed, definitely wont be keeping my legs crossed for the next few days lol. I did one of those ovulation sticks about 4pm and I swear there was a very faint line, either that or I'm willing it to be there. Lets see what happens this weekend x

Justpenny · 31/10/2013 22:17

haha! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you too! I know it's really early days for us both...it's just exciting isn't it? So I cant help jumping the gun! Just did an ovulation calculator thing online and it said my next fertile period would be 9th - 14th November which would mean a potential due date of 1 August 2014 apparently! eeek! That sounds like AGES away! haha! Ive got a million and one other things to do tonight, but instead i'm calculating my ovulation...priorities eh?! :) xx

OP posts:

Yes so exciting but I havent dared look at due dates and stuff because I'm terrified of getting ahead of myself and being disappointed. I've got some holidays booked in December and May so I dont know what would happen if I was pregnant, I dont think I'd publicise it until the first scan so I'd probably have to lie about why I'm not drinking for the December one. I've just bought a basal thermometer online so if AF turns up next month I'll start using that too and cover all bases Wink x
