HCG levels different with each child?

we are ttc no.3 and last month had a very light period, negative test a couple of days after light bleeding at doctors.
Did another test a week later and still negative. I remember with no.2 I had a very faint line on hpt the day after missed period but was pregnant.
Can your HCG levels differ from child to child? or if your HCG levels are low with one they will always be low as that's the way your body works.
Driving myself mad waiting as im due on again in a week and don't want to do another test and be disappointed until I either miss or have a light period again.

Mine have varied wildly, I've had 9 pregnancies.
I stopped having hcg blood testing at pregnancy number 4 I think because it tells you absolutely nothing worth knowing.
