OPKs as HPTs

Hi
I read somewhere that the hormones HPTs pick up to say you're PG are the sisters of the hormones OPKs pick up. and that some people have got pos OPKs as well as pos HPTs.

anyway my question, i am 3 days late and got the faintest line on OPK but neg HPT.

Has anyone ever only got faint or pos lines instead of a defo neg (1 line)?

i have only ever got a faint pos on OPKs when close to ov and obviously the line got darker until ov and the day after there would be no line at all. so i don't understand how id get a faint pos when AF is late.

i have to say i didn't get a pos OPK this month just faint 1s and just put it down to a faulty pack. so don't even know if i did ov but BD anyway.

the test i did today was from a new pack so don't think is faulty 2.

i hope someone can help.

thanks

Amy

Sorry to be a downer, but a faint line on an OPK should always be considered a negative result. There is always LH in our systems. If you were pregnant the line would be as dark or darker than the first line indicating a positive, like with Ovulation, it would stay this way throughout most of a pregnancy. You would also have positive pregnancy tests to match.

Hi aj also not to be a downer but I think that even if the opk was positive (which as ma says is only the case if it's darker) an hpt would also be positive as hpt is more sensitive. There are always exceptions though !!

Good luck

The lead up to my BFP was a result of a very strong positive on an OPK - despite internet pregnancy tests giving me BFNs on the same day. Once I got the strong OPK positive I went out and bought a 'proper' pregnancy test and immediate BFP.

Congratulations on your faint line this morning, definitely test again tomorrow to see if it's stronger Smile

Im pregnant now (yipppeeeee!) but when I was ttc, I would have a faint line on an OPK every day of the month until ovulation when the line would get darker.

It's only considered a positive for ovulation when the test line is as dark as the control line.. Or darker. Same goes for if you're using it to detect pregnancy.

OPKs DO pick up the pregnancy hormone as well so they can be used as an HPT but unfortunately a faint line doesn't mean anything .... Sorry Sad

Good luck though Thanks

hi all
thank you for your kind words.
i got a defo BFP a couple of days ago and have been doing OPKs for fun every day since starting this post. today got a darker test line then control so if thats not a pos OPK for HPT i dont know what is.
thank you to everyone who had hope for me.
id rather get my hopes up and be disappointed then be pessimistic and find out i was pregnant and miss the joy of trusting my body and being right.

Congratulations!
After months of experimenting with OPKs I found mine were totally blank (not even a v pale line) post O except in the months where I was pregnant when I would get a gradually darkening line from 7dpo. Always got a pale line on an OPK a couple of days before a BFP
