AF following miscarriage... anyone else had this?

MMC [found out at 12 week scan, baby had made it to just over 11 weeks Sad]on September 18th, ERPC on September 20th. Bled for a couple of days after ERPC then it completely stopped.

Cramping and bleeding about 2 weeks later for around 3 days and I wondered if this was AF [all symptoms of normal AF with the cramping and general moodiness!] although it seemed a bit early being only 2 weeks after ERPC... Everything I have read said that it usually takes around 4 - 6 weeks for first AF following miscarriage.

However for the last few days I had been feeling nauseous with sore breasts and dizzy spells and had almost convinced myself I might be pregnant [DTD twice in what would have been my fertile period if last bleed was AF] but today started bleeding again in a way that seems like my normal AF [and is exactly bang on 4 weeks after ERPC] but there is such minimal cramping which is not usual at all Confused

Has anyone else experienced this or knows what might be going on?

Thanks for your reply mummy...

So when did you finally get your 'normal' AF then?

I would really like to try and conceive again asap but it's so confusing to be having this on off bleeding [but in two week intervals!] and not to know whether it is still the residual mc or AF Confused

Hi nutcracker,
Sorry you are going through this, it's truly awful isn't it?
I'm having a similar experience. Had a natural mc on 18th sept and have been stop start bleeding ever since. I hadn't bled for the last week (this is a really big deal for me) and started again today so I'm taking this as af even though its just under 2weeks since my last notable bleed started.
Have you had a -ive pg test? That was used to confirm everything had passed for me so I felt a bit more confident that things were moving forward.

Hi Fairypants,

No I haven't done a pregnancy test... I think I am afraid of finding it too sad and depressing as the last time I did one I was ecstatic to find that I was pregnant at 39 and had squeaked in my final pregnancy just prior to my 40th birthday [my original cut off age for conceiving]...

But perhaps I should... to ensure that all has passed Sad.

But if it shows positive what the hell could that mean, that I still have products to pass... or I could be pregnant again???

I really hate this confusion and uncertainty...

Hi Nutcracker
Sorry to hear you've been through the mill. I had a mmc at 10 weeks (an almost imperceptible brownish discharge a couple of times when I went to the loo so went to EPU and they confirmed that the baby had stopped growing at 6.5 weeks). I elected to have the ERPC on private medical insurance ASAP on 6 Sept - didn't want to wait the 10 days under NICE to see if I miscarried as I was sure of my dates and suspected I wouldn't miscarry naturally for ages.

To cut a long story short, I had NO bleeding at all the day after the ERPC. About 4 days later, had bad contraction like cramps. Went for a run, had a bleed (bright red). Went back to see the consultant and I had a large blood clot (uterus hadn't contracted properly after the op). I was put on antibiotics and told that I'd need another procedure if the blood clot didn't pass naturally. Thankfully it did over the course of the next couple of days. I then had on/off bleeding for a couple of weeks - it finally stopped c.25 Sept. I got my period exactly 5 weeks after the ERPC.

Hope my experience is some help. I suspect that your body is still all over the shop and this bleeding is linked to ERPC. For what it is worth, I was told to wait 3 months until trying again - to properly let my body recover. Take care of yourself.

Hi nutcracker

I had an erpc on 4th of September. Had very little bleeding for 10 days after. However I was still testing positive almost 4 weeks later. On the 2nd of October I got my first negative hpt and on the 7th of october I got my af. What was interesting was I could not have ovulated between my negative hpt and my af. Also when af returned it was 33 days after erpc and I always had a 32/ 33 day cycle so it returned to its normal schedule. I am 41. HPH.
