I'm so damn angry right now!! - Blood Results

First off the makers of Cerazette really need their heads examined!
Came off Cerazette on the 7th of last month, still not a sign of AF. Got put on Mastodynon to help things work again. Still was not really improving at all some weeks after, ended up in A&E and back at the docs several days later, got put on Duphaston to help things further along and help breakup a Cyst thought to be cause of absent AF. While there I had blood work done.
I just got the phone call that informed me that I have yet to Ovulate, my estrogen levels are very low (did not get exact numbers) and she would really like to check my levels again between CD3-7. While I am not in menopause yet (I am 37), my levels are quite low for someone who should not be. Endometrium levels are also low.
Should AF not return in 4-5 weeks, or the next blood tests come back wonky I need to go back for another scan and talk about starting Clomid or something else.

I have not really been able to work since coming off the pill. I am very tired, have no real desire to do anything, have horrible pain daily, lots of pregnancy symptoms, but am not pregnant. (Had some positive tests, but these are supposedly due to the CYST)
But hey my FSH levels are 4.79, so I'm told that is one positive.
I know things could be worse, but still i feel gutted over the results. :/

What was the reason that they started investigations so soon after stopping the pill? I thought it could take 6 months or longer for cycles to regulate. My GP wouldn't do anything about my absence of a period until it had been over five months! I got my period just before then, but am still terribly irregular and again he's making me wait 3 more months before looking into anything!

mawinter · 15/10/2013 15:32

I was a bit surprised as well that she is doing things so early, but I believe it is a combination of the Cyst, Age and the amount of pain I'm in daily since coming off BC. Also previously whenever I stopped this pill (did a few times) I got a withdrawal bleed followed by AF quite quickly, just not this time around.

I'm with blabber, and even after 6 months (and jet 2 periods) they tried to fob me off. I think it was about 8 months before they agreed to do blood work IRRC.

Bloods showed high Prolactin, and a BUPA referral / MRI (thank you, ex employer for the PMI option on the benefits pack) identified an adenoma on my pituitary gland. Drugs forced the pro lactin low enough to encourage my cycle to return, then I got my BFP :).

Well I called my OBGYN and asked why she was taking such a proactive measure, so soon. Mainly it has to do with my medical history - Pre Canerous Cells resulting in Cervical Cone Biopsy, repeated cysts, the majority of my life on BC, the fact that I previously had no issues of having AF after stopping this pill a few times prior to this, the fact that I want to adopt if I cannot conceive naturally (there are supposedly long lists here in Germany), my scar tissue from botched appendix removal, all of my pain and so on. She wanted to make certain nothing was screwed up badly along the way.

but you don't know that any of it has anything to do with the cerazette?

PicardyThird · 15/10/2013 21:19

Positive pg tests from a cyst? Never heard that before, tbh. Did they check for hCG in the blood? If not, I would want that done, tbh, before writing off pregnancy.

I'm in Germany (whereabouts are you?) They are quite proactive with meds and procedures here. It is OK to say no, though, if you're not comfortable with something.

eurochick · 15/10/2013 21:25

I've never heard of positive tests due to a cyst. Are you SURE you're not pregnant?

This all sounds very odd. As others have said, it is not unusual for periods to take a few months to normalise after the pill. I can see why they are keeping an eye on you in light of past medical history, but it is a very unusual way to proceed.

mawinter · 15/10/2013 22:17

Blood HCG levels came back less than 1 and previously less than 0 (while at A&E). It is possible to have positives from cysts, I did Google it and it is correct (supposedly rare, but does happen), so i trust her. She also said there is no way I can ovulate right now (unless my meds kickstart things) with the results of all the tests they did, so for sure not pregnant.

PeppiNephrine I'm not positive it is all from the Cerazette, but I know one thing. I got a crazy amount of Cysts while on it. When I asked for something else my alternatives were not any better, so I foolishly stuck with it. I also never had such painful periods (when stopping it) when I did get them till I went on this pill, as well as a host of other problems.

PicardyThird I am in NRW.

you can't get a positive test from a cyst. There is no mechanism for a cyst to produce hcg, which is what the test is for. Fertility drugs can cause a positive, as can some tumours (though very rarely) but a cyst can not. Who told you it could?

PicardyThird · 15/10/2013 23:53

Ah, opposite side of the country to me, though I have friends and dh has relatives in NRW :)

That's odd about the blood hCG, as that's what the pg test essentially measures.

mawinter · 16/10/2013 07:59

PeppiNephrine They can indeed cause false positives, it is rare, but it can happen. I mainly only got them with my internet cheapos, which can detect very very low levels of HCG. It is also even stated as possible causes for false positives in some of the more Popular Pregnancy test pamphlets (those which btw, always gave me negatives), those tests however more often refer to cyst like tumors. Here are some of the handful of links, I found, which backup what my GP said.

Yeah, I've heard of cysts causing false positives before as well. But if your HCG is down to between 0 and 1, clearly you're not pg now.

I totally understand why you're so pissed off in general - sounds like a pretty crap thing to be going through, but I don't understand why you think it's a result of Cerazette Hmm. Could be anything. Like others have said, it often does take a wee while for your cycles to sort themselves out after coming off BC, but surely that's something you expect when you go onto it?

blamber · 16/10/2013 13:08

Ah I see why they're doing these tests. I hope your period will return naturally and that everything will work out for you!

mawinter · 16/10/2013 16:44

RaRa1988 No, like most women I expect that when i come off the pill I should not have problems conceiving, should I want to. ;) I understand that it can take time for cycles to go back to normal length wise, but when my period has not returned at all, when previously it has when stopping this medication other times over my time span of taking it (or other BC methods). Yeah I am left confused, wondering why and a tad bit angry by it.

And ah ha! I just found something......with regard to decreased Estradiol levels and Cerazette. I also found some other things, but it mainly says all Mini-Pills can lower levels, so not just solely Cerazette.

"Treatment with Cerazette leads to decreased estradiol serum levels, to a level corresponding with the early follicular phase. It is as yet unknown whether the decrease has any clinically relevant effect on bone mineral density."

I got my results faxed to me. Does anyone know just how bad an Etsradiol level of 104.70 is?

Wow sounds like you're going through a lot just now. Just wanted to say I was on cerazette for 8yeaes before coming off ttc and fell pregnant first attempt, 4 days after coming off it. Went back on cerazette 3weeks after having dd and was on it just over 2years before coming off it 3months ago ttc#2. I had a period 4weeks after coming off it again and have no problems with it the entire time I've been on it. Would happily go back on it once we have #2 x
