Nervous newbie TTC

Hi guys, I'm new to all of this, I'm 31 and TTC, it's really scary after spending all my 20s trying my hardest not to get pregnant!

My partner and myself have after a lot of thought decided to try for a baby, I'm so nervous but so excited.

I came off the pill 6 months ago but this is the first month we have tried to conceive, I should be ovulating around now so who knows!

Anyway I just wanted to say hi and see if there was anyone out there in the same situation as me :)

Xxx

Hi sazzy! Welcome! Sounds like you're well on your ttc journey.

I'm a newbie here too. I'm 30 (for the next month anyway!), ttc #1. Came off the pill in mid sept, been happily dtd for a few weeks. It really weird not using contraceptives as you say. We had to actively decide to come off pill and make a conscious decision to have a baby, it is exciting and scary! What if it happens... What if it doesn't?!

Sort of wish I'd come off the pill sooner, so that my cycle could settle. Has yours?

Hey Meringuebaby thanks for the reply, it's not something I want to share with people I know as it causes more pressure don't you think?

Before I went on the pill my cycle was all over the place I was to lad it has PCO (not the syndrome just the ovaries) so I am worried it may take me a little longer than most to conceive, saying that since I have been off my cycle has been pretty steady between 36-38 days (not ideal but better than before)

How's everything going with you? Is it something your discussions with your friends and family.

Xx

Welcome ladies! This is a great place to outpour the TTC questions and woes when you can't talk to someone in the real world.

Hopefully you will get there soon but please try not to be too surprised if it takes longer than you thought. Many of us started thinking it would just happen but it doesn't always work that way. I think the stats are something like 80% of couples get pregnant in the first 12 months and then 50% of the ones that are left manage it the 12 months after that. It can take longer than you want but patience will get you there!

Hey, I literally joined this site 5 minutes ago and I'm in the same situation! Made the decision to come off the pill 9 months ago and still no luck so far! I honestly expected things to happen quickly as everyone you speak to seems to have got pregnant 'by accident'. I have spoken to the doctor who didn't feel it necessary to give me an appointment and simply told me (over the phone) to keep trying because until I'm into the second year they don't see there's a problem. Very frustrating but the more I read, it seems I'm just being impatient Smile. I hope you have luck very soon!

I completely agree sazzy and Dulcet I haven't discussed TTC with anyone close to me and even once I get pg, I can't see me telling anyone until I am 12 weeks. Although, I am very close with my sis and mum I might not be able to wait 12 weeks to tell them!

Thanks for the cheerful stats Dulcet ... eeep!

I've bought some cheap pg test sticks and ovulation sticks online. Hoping I'll need the former soona and the latter only if we're not pg after xmas.

PCO (and the syndrome) sound like a nightmare and the impact on fertility isn't appetising when you are ready for a baby NOW! I stuggle to recall what my cycle was like before I was on the pill. I worked out the other day that I've been on it since age 16. which is a loooong time. I recall them being painful and accompanied by spots and 'regular' but all that could have changed thanks to 15yrs on the pill.

I'm sorry to hear that it's taken you 9 months already cjm. Are you and your OH coping ok with the lack of success at getting pg, in your relationship? I really hope that my DH and I are strong enough to accept childlessness if that's what Mother Nature decides. I just keep thinking of the shoes and holidays and the joys of being an auntie... works until I see a small baby and then WAAAAAH!

We've just cracked on with dtd this month, even tho I've not had a proper period yet after the pill. I am also doing the lying down for 5-10mins post deed too, goodness knows if it'll work.

Have a good day ladies!

DulcetMoans · 07/10/2013 14:04

haha. Sorry if that sounded a little depressing! Didn't mean to, I just look back at when we started (March 2012!) and think about how I felt and I could have saved myself a lot of stress if I understood the stats and probability back then.

Having said all of that, hopefully you will be one of the quick ones!! Lots of DTD is the best way forward.

justb01 · 07/10/2013 14:06

Good luck girls, I'm also in my 30s, but I've been trying for a while, unsuccessfully. I've been temping for about half a year, this time maybe i'll try opks.
Hope it'll go smoothly for you!

Meringuebaby · 07/10/2013 15:32

Dulcet you are right, I know you are... I just wish you weren't. I think you are right with the dtd... must to DH's delight. He knows that anytime he fancies it, I will be up for it, which let's face it after being together for the best part of ten years, is not always the case!

March 2012 eh? Have you just kept going or have you seen a Doc for other checks (I read somewhere, probably on MN, that after 12 months your GP will escalate to checks of some kind).

just good luck to you too, sounds like it's only around the corner for you, XF! Does anyone think it's a good or bad idea to start using the ov sticks before I have had my first non pill period? Or should I wait it out then I know what day of my cycle I am on?

Sazzyb1 · 07/10/2013 16:21

Good luck to you all, hopefully we will all have some good news this month, as I may have problems with. PSO I decided to do opks from the offset and they are showing positive for ovulation both yesterday and today! My man needs to get home from work LOL

I know it's unlikely to happen in the first cycle but isn't it strange when you have dtd that you may have started a life! It's crazy and exciting!

Xx

Hi Sazzy and welcome! I only joined this site a couple of weeks ago and its been a wealth of knowledge! Like you, I am 31 and TTC number 1. I came off my combined pill in August and am currently on my first proper cycle after my proper non pill period! I have also told no one and its really hard when you just want to chat about things or need advice. Luckily I have found there is lots of support here! Good luck on your TTC journey!
