Mean that you have not ovulated? On another forum someone's fertility consultant told them that only in rare cases do women with cycles of this length ovulate.

My acupuncturist says that when I get a long (40+ cycle) is because my body spends many days trying to ovulate (I typically get a full week of CM - nice!). Long cycles, unless they are very regular (eg someone who has been having 35 day cycles for years) should indeed be investigated. Could be a symptom of PCOS or endometriosis.

BecauseIsaidS0 On long cycles is your body successful in ovulating or does it try for many days but not succeed?

My understanding (which might be incorrect) is that when the body tries so long to ovulate, it often fails. But I'm happy to ask her for clarification next time I see her!

Someone further up said "I think it's if, for example, you usually have a cycle of 28 days and then you have a random one of 50, it may be due to repeated failed attempts at ovulation." That seems to tally with what your acupuncturist said BecauseIsaidSO

Have you had any tests to see if you are ovulating?

I had long cycles for years - including when I conceived my eldest as a result of failed MAP!

Is it possible to have 40 day cycles without having pcos?

My cycles are regular but are always 40-42 days long and I ovulate (according to OPK) CD 28.

Does this happen with anyone else? I’ve been tested for pcos and although I have cysts on ovaries I do not have the hormone imbalance according to my doc
