Positive OPK only AFTER ovulation?!

Hi all? I'm a bit confused- my temps this month suggest I ovulated 3 days ago (my first month temping but previous few months OPKs suggest this is my normal date, apart from last month when my cycle went on like a week longer!) Anyway I was doing AM and PM OPKs alongside but they were all neg this month (no line what-so-ever!) up until last night it showed up a line close to the colour of the control, and the same again this morning! Can anyone shed any light?!

How high was your temp raise when you thought you ovulated? I'd guess that you've ovulated late for some reason.

It dipped from 36.50 to 36.15 (lowest this month) then back up to 36.50 and further to 36.80 (highest) the day after. Xxx

I've added a pic of my chart to my profile. It's only days 21 & 22 I got near + OPK xx

Can't see your profile.

Have you had three temps at the 36.8 level? That's what confirms ovulation?

Personally I'd keep temping (I know, I know) and go with the OPKs in regard to sex. Your temps may be off for whatever reason (or may make more sense when looked at over the course of the month as a whole), whereas the hormone is either there or it isn't: i.e. I personally see OPKs as more reliable than temperatures.

Thanks flowersinavase :)

My temp is up at 36.75 again to day so pretty sure I ov-ed, although the predicted ovulation lines on my chart have just shifted a day forward (to the 36.50 day), though that was still a neg OPK day!

Ps to answer your question properly flowers, that's my 3rd high temp now (36.80, 36.70, 36.75) xxx

I have had this happen where I have not got the positive opk til day after ovulation. I think some women just metabolise the LH at different rates into there urine, so for me I always get the temp rise on the day of or the day before OPK becomes positive. For me OPK's would be useless for predicting when to get active with ttc!!!!

RaRaZ · 29/09/2013 12:30

That's really interesting, Willitbe - I didn't even know that was possible. Hmmm....

OP : Were you checking your CM? What did that suggest?

happypinkpanther · 29/09/2013 14:09

Hey willitbe, that's good to know, thank you for sharing. I'm hoping that maybe we missed it the previous months relying just on OPKs (fingers crossed!) We dtd on 16th, 17th and 18th and I think I ov-ed on 19th or 20th :) CM was EW and very apparent on the 19th so that ties in too :) xxx

To my understanding, unless you're polycystic or your body makes several attempts to ovulate during the month before finally achieving it, EWCM can be pretty much relied upon to indicate fertility, so I'd go with that. Did you have any EWCM before your temp rise?

happypinkpanther · 29/09/2013 15:00

Thanks RaRaz. I don't think so, maybe a little bit the days leading up to it (just becoming more 'moist really' !) and definitely not like the day 19 (the day I think I ov-ed, or the day before I did, when there was ALOT).

Am quite pleased I had a temp rise either way :) and it coincided with when you would expect I would for my length of slightly longer cycle. Just was a bit thrown by the late +OPKs!

Thanks again xx

Yeah, me too. It is a little strange. But I'd be confident that you've ovulated at some point even if we can't be 100% sure when! Smile
