Just a quicky - AF arrived today so I am all patched up with estrogen :) Hopefully scan this time next week will show a nicely growing lining and I will get to a successful transfer the week after. One step at a time though...

Brook it's great we can say ciao to the cyst! The only thing I can say is that Suprecur isn't that niceit hurt more than the others but I haven't done gonal F or know anything other than the short protocol. I guess a different new approach could be just the ticket, fingers crossed!

Any advice re menopur or cetrotide? Side effects? Tips?
I'm really scared! I still feel like this is a massive mistake but I also feel like it's now or never...

Still Menopur is fine, they don't hurt at all I found the anticipation worse, am sure you will be fine x

AFM not much to report. Have still got the spotting (that's three weeks today!) but am not bothered as all the delay in the cycle might mean that we can go for the next FET in November and not have to wait until Jan.

My answer is to eat and eat and eat. I'm going to be massive by the time I finish the Ivf, fat and bloated! Marvellous.

I am really hoping that it will be next Tuesday. Dh is away until Friday so at least then I'd only have two nights of jabs before he's back and only the menopur. It would fit in better for egg collection too...but I just know ill come on tomorrow or Friday. I guess that's the risk with doing the short protocol...can't time things as easily.

Hello everybody. I am here too lurking away. I went to see my counsellor today as well and am also drinking wine! Can I ask a silly question? What is the difference between short and long protocol and why do they put people on different types? We are atill waiting to hand in my DP's sperm sample (even though we kind of know its okay from all the lost pregnancies), then we have to wait for the fertility clinic to contact us. Am getting fed up waiting now. I have been massively cheered by Drizzle's BFP though. Am keeping my fingers crossed for Llw on Friday as well. X

The long protocol requires down regging (stopping your own hormones, puts you into a mini menopause) before starting stimulating your ovaries and then have egg collection.

Short protocol usually is for older women or people who have responded poorly to long protocol and does not down reg, works with the natural cycle. Also for people who overstimulated on the long protocol or have pcos.

I've asked for short protocol because from what I can see the outcomes are the same statistically and there are less medications involved. I am diabetic and also suffer migraines. My clinic scanned me and said I had eight or nine follicles each side so I would be an ok candidate for short protocol. Tbh I may well not have proceeded if I'd had to do long protocol, mainly because of the migraines.

Thanks Still. I would much prefer the short protocol as well from the sounds of it. I think Homerton DRs everybody from what I've read on their website. It sounds rotten. Do you think I would be classed as an older women at nearly 38? I also suffer from migraines. Hmmm. Thanks for the info x

I don't know... I'm 31 and originally they said so you'll be on the long protocol... And I pushed for short so they scanned and said I had plenty of follicles and would actually be at risk of over stimulating on long protocol. Worth mentioning the migraines because mine are definitely hormone related and apparently it is the down regging hormones that usually cause them, so the short protocol misses them out.

As I said there appears to be no difference in the success rates, there is argument that you get more eggs on the long protocol but better quality ones (although less) on short protocol, so ultimately both protocols end up giving a similar number of viable eggs.
Some clinics prefer long because it gives them more control over your cycles, mine are 28 days so I knew where I was but I guess if you have really long cycles or aren't ovulating then short protocol might not be any good.

I would ask, if there's no reason why you have to go for long then I'd strongly consider pushing for the short protocol.

I'm booked in for a scan next Tuesday to check how my lining has grown, ET the week after that sometime. I can't believe it is all happening now. This time next month it will all be over - I'll either be pregnant or not. Weird.
