Probably really silly question re ttc and smear test!

We are ttc and I am well overdue a smear test. Could a smear affect an early pregnancy at all ie if I was pregnant and didn't know and then went for a smear could it hurt it?
Thanks

I'm in nearly the same situation. My smear is about 3 years overdue as they sent an appointment last time I was pg. I'm no doctor but I wouldn't risk any kind of cervical fiddling around if there is a possibility you are pg. I took a pregnancy test found it was negative and booked a smear for this week. I think we might wait until result has come back before we ttc again just in case any follow up smears need doing.

Aren't you meant to time smears for shortly after your period has ended? Unless you ovulate super super early, you'd be unlikely to be pregnant at that point.
On another note, I think my cousin (in the US) had a smear done at her first midwife appointment in early pregnancy, so presumably it's felt to be safe enough.

I had one done when I was 5 weeks and Dr said it was fine (discovered I was pg 2 days before appointment).

have it done before you ovulate

I wouldn't have it done when pregnant tbh

I delayed one 2 years .. ended up with an abnormal op and little op to correct bad cells .. not so bad

nhs direct here says ok to have one during pg

personally I wouldn't but that's just me

Just wanted to add my tuppence worth - I live in Germany where smears are routine for pregnant women...Last time I was pg my doctor recommended I have one even though I wasn't due it. German women have smears annually, I think. I really didn't want to but both she and dh said I might as well...so I reluctantly did. This was at about 10/11 wks.

I miscarried at 15 weeks. I don't know if it's at all relevant, but looking back, I'd say no next time.

that's just my experience - I'm no medical expert.

Thanks for all your help! I will be on day 11 of my cycle and new to ttc lark so would you say that would be OK?
Many thanks

I had a smear test just before starting TTC, and was advised by the nurse that I should not start TTC until my results were back. This was because if abnormal cells were found, they could not be removed if I were pregnant.

Hugs,
Artoo.
