How reliable are £ shop tests?

Been ttc since June with what started as a chemical pregnancy. I then got a bfp late July but had an early mc not long after.

I've had no natural period since May this year and have been referred to hospital for checks. Now, I thought my period would be here by now but it isn't and I've hot into the habit of poas every 1-2 weeks just incase. I've just done my usual poas and there's definitely 2 lines! The pregnancy is fainter than the test line but its defo there!

I used a £ shop dip stick type test as I was expecting the usual negative. Are these reliable? And is this even possible?? My DP has been in Europe since 23rd August and we dtd one lady time the night before he went, I don't even know if these dates match up?!

Sheesh my heads all over the place now! So want this to be real but wasn't expecting to concieve again til I had at least had a period!

Appologies, I don't know all the correct abbreviations, never posted on the conception boards.

Shock

I was using cheap dipstick pieces of cardboard when I was testing for pregnancy.

I'm sure they are just as reliable but when I got a 2nd line one day I did go out and buy 3 'proper' tests (all different brands) just to make sure Smile

Congratulations!!!

If its been exactly 4 weeks since conception, would I be 2-3 weeks pg? It takes about 1 week to implant, is that right?

OOh How exciting :o
I'll celebrate with some Wine and you can have some Brew and Cake

When does your dp get home? What a fabulous homecoming surprise for him.

IslaValargeone · 19/09/2013 17:14

I think it is between 7-14 days from conception to implantation, but don't know for sure tbh.

Congratulations!

Four weeks since intercourse that lead to the pregnancy would make you about 6 weeks pregnant, or 5 weeks if you didn't ovulate til a week later (sperm can survive upto 7 days).

The clear blue gives an estimate since conception so 2-3 weeks on clear blue makes you 4-5 weeks.

Therefore looks like you ovulated about a week after your dh had left, but those super sperm were ready and waiting!

The doctors and midwives will date your pregnancy from your last menstral period, and only change you edd if the dating scan at 12 weeks says otherwise.

Sorry I just posted while trying to see if you said you LMP but I see it was a miscarriage. I apologise for my insensitivity. Hmm Sorry to say also but the first day of bleeding of your miscarriage will be taken as you LMP date until you get your scan.

You will probably be offered a scan fairly quickly to confirm dates. It should be within the next 6 weeks, but I would recommend waiting for three weeks before your first scan if possible. Too early scans can cause more stress than being helpful, waiting til you are around 8 weeks will be more reassuring.

Again congratulations on your pregnancy, enjoy breaking the news to your dh.

Thank you all for the responses. I didn't realise my bleed from miscarriage would be counted as LMP that's strange!

We're both a bit shocked but over the moon Grin
