PL can you assess the following and let me know your thoughts?

OK, so I got a +ve OPK (clear blue monitor egg symbol yesterday). DTD in the morning.

Yesterday evening (around 11pm) my temp was around 36.30 (I know you're not supposed to temp in the evening but anyway - that's typical of my pre-ovulation temp).

This morning at 8 am my temp was 36.60 - this is typical of my post-ovulation temp. We dtd anyway. But it was a MAJOR hardship, or should that be softship, for my DH. Yes, I'm risking completely killing any passion in our marriage by all this TTC pressure (is there a punch yourself in the eye emoticon on here?).

So I just wondered: if you have sex within 12 hours of a temp dip, is it still possible to catch da egg? I understand the egg lives for 12-24 hours after ovulation. So if ovulation is indicated by a temp rise then maybe I've caught the 12 hour window. OR am I completely mistaken - e.g. does the temp rise only happen after the whole process of ovulation has been completed, meaning there was no egg to be caught?

I'm not an expert but I think temp rise is the onset of ovulation, so you've got some swimmers in there from yesterday and today, so I reckon you're in a pretty good place. Maybe do it once more tomorrow if you're DH can stand it!

My first cycle I didn't tell DH about my OPK then I stupidly left the stick out with a smiley face and he thought I was preg and hadn't told him! He now dreads the smiley and says it's a complete passion killer! I tend to agree but beg him anyhow to shut up and put up!

Haha - allchat - you and me both (re the passion killer). I just can't help myself. I get all upset when he says he's too tired, and then attempt to explain the biology. Trouble is, I'm not sure I even get the biology right (c.f my OP). Oh dear.

When does your 2ww start?

I'm 14dpo now! Or at least i think I am. I had a smiley for a tues,weds and a thurs, so this is 14 days since the first day of smiley.

I did a Boots digital yesterday afternoon and it was negative.

Cramping like hell, but have been for at least a week. Keep going to the toilet. Told myself I have to wait until Thurs morning before I test again. I've done a million google searches trying to find fault with the Boots test to no avail. I think AF will get my just a bit later. Bum.

@ Moche, you can conceive when you bd three days before ovulation, so don't worry, there is still chance for BFP! If you have intercourse even two days before ovulation it still good. At least according to ovufriend, charting site I'm using.

all I'm possibly one day past ovulation (or maybe ovulating today - doesn't it make me sound like some sort of farmyard animal ;).

Just - thanks - I know you have a chance if you dtd before ovulation, but I'm wondering if you have a chance on the DAY of ovulation - - and how temp rises relate to it all. Had a pre-ov low temp yesterday at 11pm and a post-ov high temp this morning at 8am. So just wondering if dtd at 8am this morning was worth it. I.e. if the temp rise means the egg was on its way, or whether the temp rise means it's all over for this month.

Ah tis done now, and probably better than not doing it, but am in serious risk of alienating DH if I carry on like this .

Going to try another brand though. One with lines! I hate the digital words one- feels more of a slap in the face! Waiting for a non existent line feels like a softer way of it sinking in!

I'm not holding out much hope though because I think that Boots one would have picked it up if it were true.

I agree with you. I got my BFP (now a 3 year old) using an ASDA cheapie test (old skool with lines). Consequently, I think they're lucky ;). Unfort, I no longer live near any ASDAs...

Yes, stay strong til Thurs. BTW have you tried on line - really really cheap tests there...and acc to some site I was looking at, Sainsbury's own brand are good (interestingly, Boots much less so).

PS also acc to my (clearly extensive) internet research, I get the feeling that it may have still been worth DTD this morn. If the egg was released at, say, midnight yest (hence the low pre-ov temp at 11pm yest eve) then it would still survive til noon today. And even though there was a post-ov temp spike this morn I think that just relates to the egg being on its way. I may be wrong of course. Thanks for the GL wishes - rootin for you too!

maybe jump on DH when he comes home? give him some porn or something. I offered this up when mine said I was killing the passion - hilarious! Anything to get him to dtd!

well, I hope your 2ww wait isn't a killer with a million 'could i be pregnant' symptoms!

As far as i am aware, and i do read quite a bit on this, once you have the temp spike it is game over for the month as by the time the sperm get to your tubes it will be too late. If you had sex on your first peak day according to the monitor, that is the absolute best time for catching the egg so you have a decent chance this month. The second peak day is worth a go too, especially in the morning, but after that day the egg is gone. Remember to have sex in one of the high days before the peak too, especially if you think you are going to peak the next day and may not have the opportunity. Good luck this month hope you get a bfp.
