Can someone explain Dpo? Confused!

Hi,

Hoping someone can help.

If when using a cb OPK I had a smiley face (solid), at 1pm tues, weds and the same time on Friday, at which point do I start counting the days?

The first tues was a fortnight ago now.

I did a test yesterday with a Boots digital and it was a Bfp. Anyone think I tested too early or have experience with Boots. I threw the leaflet away and have no idea now the strength of the test!

Thanks so much for any replies.

X

Congratulations! If you had a positive opk two weeks ago and now a positive pregnancy test then that sounds about right. With preg tests a line is a line no matter how early you test. Do a digital if you need to read the result in black and white!

KatAndKit · 17/09/2013 09:02

Sorry you already did a digital. You are quite definitely up the duff :)

allchatnicknamesgone · 17/09/2013 09:16

ah sorry - complete mistype! I had a bpn!!!

I had a negative preg test!

Ahh Hmm. I don't understand how you had a solid smiley from Tues all the way till Fri? Once it's come up, it's supposed to stay there for 48hours only Confused. However, most women ovulate either on the second day of the fixed smiley or the day after (so the day it goes away). If that's true for you, you could be testing a little early. If you think you could be pg/don't get AF, test again in a few days.

allchatnicknamesgone · 17/09/2013 11:18

Hi Raraz. Sorry, again my typing is not going well. I meant Thurs on original post. I was back to empty circle on the Friday. Also, I was using just digital CB and not the 'advanced' one where you get the flashing smiley before the solid. I used that last cycle and it drove me crazy!

Really hope I'm making sense now!

I was cramping last night and had cramps all day, but AF not here yet.

I've told myself that if AF doesn't come before thurs morning, I'll test then again, but maybe with better brand that Boots? I think I prefer looking at lines rather than words. Somehow the words appear harsher than a line not appearing :)

Ahhh. I see Smile. Well, you could still be early - and of course not everyone gets a positive straight away either. Good plan to wait a few days - maybe till Fri? Try Asda's own - they're cheap, but the general consensus on here is that they're good. Best of luck!

allchatnicknamesgone · 17/09/2013 16:35

Thank you for advice. I'll try to wait until fri, but that seems like impossible task! Still no AF. Thx again x

Aren't you supposed to stop testing after you first get a solid smiley?

allchatnicknamesgone · 17/09/2013 17:00

You can do, but this month I kept doing it every day until I went back to an empty circle for piece of mind that it was actually ovulation. The previous cycle I used the advanced cb opk and had 5 days flashing before solid, so I had spare sticks so thought I'd make sure it was over. Got myself in a bit of a muddle though when I had a smiley on day 3 hence I was wondering when people count the Dpo from. Do you have an opinion? Thx.

I'm very confused on the timing, but generally you ovulate around 48 hours after your first positive OPK. It can vary though. I temp and can feel ov, and I have had a positive OPK 24-72 hrs before ov in various months.

So I'd assume ov 48 hrs after your first OPK and 1 dpo will be the followin day and so on.

allchatnicknamesgone · 17/09/2013 18:08

Sorry re timings. Maybe this will clarify:

Tues 3rd sept - smiley at 1pm
Weds 4th sept- smiley at 1pm
Thurs 5th sept - smiley at 1pm
Fri 6 th sept - empty circle

I Dtd on Mon, tues, and weds, but not thurs.

What do you think? How many Dpo would I be today?

Thanks. X

I'd say you most likely ovulated on the 5th but that is an estimate. So you would be 12dpo today.

allchatnicknamesgone · 17/09/2013 18:26

Ok. Thank you so much!!!
May still be in for a chance then hopefully, even though I didn't actually do it that day.

The day before ovulation is an excellent time to have sex, the sperm are all ready and waiting to fertilize the egg. If you had sex in all three days before ovulation you really do have the best possible chance this month. By now s first response early result, or s superdrug early test will probably tell you for sure.
good luck but remember even if you do everything right you only have a one in four or five chance each month.

allchatnicknamesgone · 18/09/2013 14:50

My chance this month is over. Just had some blood, so full on AF is a matter of hours away.

Just ordered some more vitamins and a thermometer- going to temp next month even though my period coming today does prove I dtd smack in the right place. Maybe if my temp drops again, it will make the 2ww less agonising!

Thanks for all help xx

Allchat - just be aware though that periods do not always appear 14 days after ovulation. Last month my luteal phase was only seven days (but this is because I've just come off the pill). Good luck!

VJONES1985 · 18/09/2013 17:45

Oh sorry, have just seen that you ovulated two weeks ago. So looks like AF did come when expected. That's good then :-)

allchatnicknamesgone · 18/09/2013 17:49

hi vjones.
Yep, my Luteal phase seems to be pretty bang on every month at 14 days. Shame the buggers won't stick.
