Hello all - just wondered if you had advice on whether with a bfn from a Boots test 4 days before AF means I could still get a bfp later?? I really, really tried to resist testing...but couldnt. I had a miscarriage 2 months ago, waited for my cycle to return and am now a little too keen. Am trying to manage my expectations, so wodnered if anyone had any experience of bfns followed by bfps, or otherwise???

Sorry but what is bfn and bfps?

Piffle · 22/06/2006 17:36

yes it could be too early, youm really are chucking oney down the drain testing early, I do this too as I too am very keen to know
Even when I was pregnant both times I only ever got faint postive tests on the day my period was due, having had negs the whole time before

Don't know about boots own but with first response I only got a faint line with dd and that was when I was 3-4 days late.

mum2oliver bfn-big fat negative
bfp-big fat positive

Hey newby.

Firstly, you've got a very high chance of a false negative if you test early anyway.

Secondly, you can check how sensitive the test is. My test (Trueline) detects hcg in urine to s concentration of 25mIU/ml. The lower the number the more sensitive the test - so 20mIU/ml would be more sensitive and 50mIU/ml less so. This info should be on the test instruction leaflet.

thanks guys - thats really helpful. I am just silly for not waiting to see if I am late (when ttc before miscarraige I had got very good about not testing and waiting to see if was late, just not been very controlled this month!) Gonna go and check the boots tests now for sensitivity! Thanks again.
