Luteal Phase - how short is too short?

Hello, just wondering really as i have a relatively short cycle - 25days. I have not temped or used opk's yet so don't really know if/when i ov other than generalised predictions by cycle length. What is the best way to work out when i ov. And therefore how long my LP is? And if it is too short what to do? Thanks.

I understand opks warn you when your body is preparing to ov, but only temping confirms ov.

I think a lutal phase shorter than 10 days is generally considered too short. B6 can be used to lengthen it - not sure exactly how much (as I have the opposite issue of long cycles) but Im sure someone cleverer will be along shortly!

Thanks jaykay. When would you start temping? Which day i mean

Hi. My average cycle is 24 days and to try to put your mind at rest, it's not caused any problems for me. Based on OPKs LP about 14 days though. Currently expecting DC3.

jaykay987 · 13/09/2013 18:43

Nota - I temp every day.

VJONES1985 · 13/09/2013 18:54

Anything less than 10 days is a cause for concern because it means a fertilised egg wouldn't have a chance to implant. I think 12-14 days is ideal but you don't know how long yours is if you don't know when you ovulate.

Thank you flutter yes that does ease my mind a little. I guess theres only one way to find out! Was really not keen on going down the opk and temp route at this early stage but if i get the bfn i am expecting this month and af arrive on time, i will have had 3 consecutive 25 day cycles since coming off depo jab.

I am 36 now and ttc #1 so maybe should temp this month just to check.

Do you have to do it before you get out of bed or can i go to the bathroom?

You're supposed to do it before you move. So my thermometer lives in the drawer by my bed!

Totesamazeballs · 13/09/2013 22:03

I am sure you just ovulate early but temping and tracking on my fertility friend is a good idea.take your temp before moving/ getting up and at the same time every morning. Good luck!

Thank you! DH is not keen on the whole planning thing at this stage 'we'll just see what happens.....' so not sure whether he will like the whole temp thing. Hmm. Will give it some thought.
