period late but no BFP

Hi everyone, so we are trying for a baby and this month my period is a week late however despite doing a million tests they are all negative.

I'm usually bang on 28days in my cycle and this is the first month this has ever happened. Ever. In my whole menstrual life.

I'm not particularly stressed or worried about anything. Why is my body doing this to me? I already have a DD and conceived her the first month we tried.

Anyone had this? What should I do?

I would go to the doctor. if your late and your regular then theres a reason. Pregnant or not it sounds like it needs investigating.. good luck

NeuroticSweetTalk · 06/09/2013 08:42

My bestie kept having this, we figured it was because of stress she didn't realise she was under or that she was so uptight about getting her BFP that she was almost at the point her body would mimic it and cause AF to turn up late (surprisingly that's a real thing that happens) the last time it happened though it was just a glitch in the test she took as she was actually pregnant.

Best thing I think would to wait a week or so and go to see your doctor Smile

Thanks, I wasn't sure if it eas something I should go to the doctor about.

I'm not anxious about getting pg, we have only just halfheartedly started ttc so I'm not at the stage of worrying yet, I can understand how someone who has been trying and getting anxious could end up convincing themselves but honestly I wasn't stressed about it.
I tested on the day after I was due on. I've used cheap tests and cb digital as recently as this morning.i just want AF to show so we can go again this month.

Surely if I was pg, even if I'd ovulated late, the test would be positive?

Not necessarily, if you are pg it's feasible that it might not necessarily show up right away. Don't some POAS only detect the hCG when it's at 25mlU? So it might just mean it's too early to pick it up? Some women just don't produce hCG fast enough for early detection and it can take up to 3 weeks post-ovulation for then to get their BFPs.

Otherwise I'm not sure what it could be since its usually stress but that's ruled out.

Good luck Smile

Seconding Neurotic: I was four weeks post-ov before I got a positive test. It can happen. I'm small and seem to have low levels of some hormones (could that be the case for you?) or you might have ovulated later than you think, meaning that you're not actually late/as late as you think, or you might be one of the few women who doesn't metabolise HCG into their urine at all, meaning you'd need a blood test to establish pg.

OR you might not be pg at all. It's not just stress of the desperately ttc/mother just died/about to lose job variety that can delay ovulation. Physical stress like illness or over-exercising can too, as can travel in some women. So you may have ovulated late and thus AF will be late.

If I were you, I'd probably wait another week and if still no AF/BFP, I'd go to the GP. You might have a really good GP, in which case feel free to ignore me, but in my experience most a bit clueless about this kind of thing and will probably humour you by doing one of their cheapies (which generally look for a HCG level of 50, so much higher than what you've been using), and then tell you to go away and that some variation is normal and your period will probably show up soon. If you're two weeks' late, you'll have much more 'power' to get something done.

whereisthewitch · 07/09/2013 08:29

There is a chance I ovulated a bit later but surely a test would show positive by now if I was pg? My last period started on 28th July. I got a strong positive the day my af was due with my DD.
Has anyone had a situation and actually turned out to be pregnant?

RaRaZ I think you're right about leaving it a few weeks before I see ny gp, this is quite frustrating, I haven't had any huge stress recently nor have I lost weight or started exercise.

I would have thought so (re BFP by now), especially when you've been pg before and that's happened - so presumably no problem with metabolising HCG into urine. Maybe see GP next week then?

pippitysqueakity · 07/09/2013 20:13

With DD2, was late and tests all showed -ve.
Never got a positive test for my feisty little 8 yr old.
She is very real!! Grin

whereisthewitch · 08/09/2013 12:35

I don't have any pregnancy symptoms, whereas with DD I was bloated from conception, achingly sore boobs and constant period type cramps. I did have all this coming up to when I was due on but the symptoms have all disappeared!

Why do our bodies do this to us, especially after making quite a big decision to start trying again, I thought for a while I could never go through it all again.

pippity that's so odd, did you get a positive with your first DD?

OP posts:
pippitysqueakity · 09/09/2013 19:05

Yes, a v positive +ve with DD1 a week into pg.
TBH, just knew with DD2 so altho test would have been useful, got v quickly superseded by morning sickness and needing to wee every minute!
I used cheaper tests from chemist tho' maybe the posh ones advertised on TV might be better.
Our bodies are really funny things, aren't they?
Hope you ok and you get the result you want asap.
