Hi all,

I am going into the clinic tomorrow to have my oocytes harvested.
I have been on medication for the past 10 days, to grow more follicles, so hoping to yield more oocytes, to yield more eggies.

So, how many is "Good" "Average" "Poor"

I have a cyst on my left ovary, so my left has not produced as well as my right ovary.

For me, I have 8 follicles on my right, but just 6 follicles on my left.
Out of the total of 14 follicles, the clinic said that the 4 smallest one's are unlikely to contain a mature oocyte.
The small one's are 2 at 11mm diameter, 1 at 10mm diameter, and 1 at 9mm diameter.

I have heard of some women producing up to 20 follicles, like,,,10 on each ovary !!

Is that real?

Fay

The answer is that it depends! I've read of numbers between 1 and 36 on this board alone. The number isn't everything though - it's really about the quality of what they get.

I woke up next to someone in my clinic who had 40 eggs - quite amazing considering the lady was 45! Now that isn't normal ! I think you should be very pleased with how many you have got. It only tAkes one and I have seen plenty of people on these threads who have had 2 or 3 and that has resulted in a baby. Quality not quantity I say. Good luck.

Your scan results sound completely normal. The clinic will be aiming to achieve a smaller amount of good quality eggs, rather than loads... The risk with masses of follicles is ovarian hyper stimulation, that can make people very poorly and may mean embryo transfer has to be postponed. Remember they can only transfer one or two, occasionally three, embryos at a time and that should be the primary objective of your stims... Good luck. Trust me, it does work xxx
