Alternating periods - normal one month, very light the next

Does anyone else have this? Ever since I can remember, I've had a very regular pattern in which I have a normal period one month, and the next month a very light period (like, barely there). Do you know what causes it?
My cycle lengths are pretty regular, and I definitely ovulate each month. The only reason I'm wondering, is that DP and I are currently TTC our second child. When we were trying with our first, I got pregnant during one of the light months, and then miscarried a few days later. (I got pregnant again a few months later during one of the normal months). I suppose I'm wondering whether, during the light period months, there's a problem with the hormones that control the womb lining. Does anyone know? Thanks!
