menopur panic

Hi,

I'm brand new to mumsnet and brand new to ivf. A friend recommended I come on here to get some support as Im so confused.

I was referred to Guys ACU as an oncology patient last year to try and harvest eggs for embryo storage prior to my hysterectomy (I wasn't sure whether they were going to leave my ovaries - they did). We failed to get anything done as the cycles were all out and I needed to have my op asap. We have now returned to ACU to see if we can get some embryos for cryopreservation for later surrogacy. It all feel kind of urgent as Im 40 this year, and my cancer status means I may enter menopause early. The ACU consultant has told us that the odds are stacked against us, but we still want to know that we have tried all we can. The whole process is really confusing and we haven't had any single person sit down and give us the whole picture. We were given a whole load of forms to read and sign but no-one to explain what they meant, we have had no letter or welcome pack, and we have to repeat our situation almost every time we speak to the clinic.

We started a short cycle - I started menopur 1200iu injections this week. The nurse at the clinic said the meds should have been in the fridge, but my courier delivery note said to refrigerate otrivelle only. The ACU left a message on my phone to say the meds are probably useless and to call the drugs company, but its the weekend now and both the clinic and the drugs company are closed.

I'm so upset as I feel this is our only (very slim) chance and I may have messed it up.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has used unrefrigerated menopur 1200...or has any advice, any response would be much appreciated

thanks

Have you googled? I just did for you, and one of the first results was patient instructions which say it can be out of fridge for max of 48 hours for example during transportation.

Thanks Bluebell. Its been over 3 weeks. I managed to speak to the on-call doctor at the ACU, awho reassured me that it's ok. And have just been to pick up pack from them to get me through the weekend. I will speak to the drugs company on Monday. Sorry for the outpouring, I got a bit panicky.

Thanks again

Hi colm, I'm glad you got it sorted. Above is a link to the ivf thread, it may be worth having a read, the ladies there are a wealth of knowledge and support!

Thank you both very much. I will read through the thread.

colmenero I'm having iui atm with daily injections of menopur at 75iu. It's only the ovitrelle that goes in the fridge. I even double checked as I was unsure too at first. The menopur is only a powder anyway before you mix it with sterile water
