Every day if poss just to make sure you havn't missed any opportunity.
With DS we did it everyday and I was pregnant within 4 months. This time around, what with a toddler on our hands we only managed about every other day and it took 6 months.

you don't actually need to do it every day - and unless this is the norm for you you'll soon get completely knackered! best thing to do is every 2 -3 days. that way, whenever you ovulate (which is usually around days 14-17 but varies hugely from woman to woman) there will be a consignment of healthy sperm to meet your egg. you need to count day 1 as the first day of your period with proper red blood (not the brownish stuff you get to begin with).

you could try using \link{http://www.babycentre.co.uk/tools/ovu\this} to work out the dates - if you have a regular cycle.

i've heard that the best way to work out when fertle is to work back from start of your period 2 weeks (so if you usually have a 5 week cycle, it will be 3 weeks after starting period that you are fertile). another good indicator is cervical mucus - apparently it needs to look clear like egg white for you to be fertile. so if you see clear stuff (not milky or cloudy) then go for it! good luck.
