Hi all,

I found out two weeks ago, that I have a low dose of hepatitis C.
It is very low, and it is level 2 strain, which is quite treatable within about 3 months.

We also found out that it is very common in Asia, and I feel after all the talks with the blood specialists, that I contracted this hepatitis C, when I was about 19 years old, and having dentistry work done.
The main reason people get hepatitis C, is through drug use, but I will put that out of the way, right away :)

It was just that it was a blow to our plans of ICSI.

However, all is not lost, we started the simulation 4 days ago, with an "under the skin" injection every evening at 21:00h.

Then tomorrow, we return tot he fertility clinic, and they will see how many more days I need this injection, before they tell me to also add in another "under the skin" injection.

Then they will do several follicular scans, and harvest the oocytes.

My husband has had his sperm all washed and frozen, and all is well on that front, which was our main worry, as he had the snip some 27 years ago, and had it reversed.

Any way back to me.
They will to the "sperm into the oocytes" and mature them, then freeze them.

Then I will get my hepatitis C, under the 800,000 loading, which is the "low marker" loading sits currently at 1,103460, which is just above low. I think 5,000,000 is the higher level.

The fertility clinic, have been great about it, and have explained it all very good, and it's all about getting my hepatitis C lower.

So we will head back to UK, from Spain, in the next few weeks, (after my oocytes have been harvested)

Then as soon as we arrive back in UK, we will start the treatment for the hepatitis C.

We expect to be back here in Barcelona for 1-2 days in January, for the transfer, and pick up un the trail that we left off.

Keep well every one.

Fay

Hi Fay, I hope it all went well in Barcelona. My son was born in Barcelona 12.5 years ago, and after he was born they tested my umbilical cord and discovered I had HepC. I can´t remember which type and I have no idea how I got it. My son was born by emergency C-section, and although the virus was in the umbilical cord it wasn´t transferred to him and he was (and is) fine. I did a combined treatment for 6 months and the HepC was cleared. I had yearly blood tests for 10 years but all been negative. You can hear some horror stories about the treatment but I didn´t miss a day´s work and looked after my baby son alone. You´ll be fine I´m sure. Good luck with everything.
