I've just had some cm that I don't remember seeing before - any ideas? It was clear, sticky and in a blob, almost like jelly.

I feel fairly certain this is SUPER INSANE FERTILE! Not an expert by any means, but good luck!

In agreement with leezl Grin

Ha ha, when I told dh about the cm he asked, Is it a state of emergency?

Did it stretch between your fingers? If so, it's ewcm. How's your opk?

VJONES1985 · 17/08/2013 10:37

It did stretch, not inches like some books have had me believe though! Can't do opk till late this afternoon because we're out all day. I had fmu and then we left. Not getting my hopes up though, as it's been negative so far.

Quite worried now - more jelly cm just now but it was tinged with a browny colour Confused

VJones don't worry, I've heard of this type of CM being tinged brown - it's perfectly normal :)

VJONES1985 · 17/08/2013 11:06

Okay :( Never had it before and this is month one off the pill so it's unnerving, ha ha!

Opk had a faint line, which is more than it usualy has, but was still negative, surprise surprise. I did do it later than usual today though.

Have done a but of research with Dr Google and it does indeed seem that jelly-like cm (sometimes with a small amount of blood) is ewcm. Am over the moon if this is the case :D

Does it mean that I am fertile now or that an egg is likely to release in a day or so? Thanks.

It really depends. On regular cycles, ewcm can be present from a week or less in advance I think. Some only have it for one day. However, since you've just come off the pill there's no telling really. Your body can have false starts in trying to ovulate, or it can take longer to prepare for ovulation. Then again, it could just happen any day. Just try and go with it.

blueamber · 17/08/2013 17:59

Having ewcm does mean that the perfect environment has been created for sperm to survive in. So if you keep dtd every other day they'll survive for a while and you won't miss ov.

VJONES1985 · 17/08/2013 18:56

Thanks, blue. It's very hard to second guess but I'll go with it, as you say, and just assume ovulation is imminent.

Here's something that people may find interesting - according to Zita West's book, cm of a moist and sticky feel usually follows the peak fertility time and the thicker secretions, caused by a rise in progesterone, form a plug at the cervix which may block sperm. Women are usually fertile during this stage for three days following their peak day.

So the thick, jelly cm may actually signal this stage. Obviously I don't know my own cycle well enough to say whether my cm is this type or not but it's worth bearing in mind.
