How many cycles did it take you to conceive using OPKs?

Hi all

Just wondering how many cycles it has taken ladies to conceive using OPKs?

I came off the pill at the end of December last year and my cycles are still not quite completely regular.
I wasted the first 4-5 months of this year having sex with DH and the complete wrong time!

This is my 3rd cycle of using OPKs (clearblue digis) and despite no bfp yet, I'm feeling much more in control and happier about ttc.

If you used OPKs, how long did it take you to conceive? Smile

And before anyone says anything smart.. I know that the best thing is to have regular sex (!!) Grin but that's not very easy for me and DH due to our jobs and weird shifts.. So OPKs really help to pinpoint the days and obviously we try to have sex as much as poss leading up to a positive OPK as well.

Also I know there are women who use OPKs every month for months or even years and still not pregnant.

Just wondering if there's any success stories out there from women struggling to conceive before using OPKs and then using OPKs and getting a bfp Smile

Even though I'm using opks, we have been dtd every two days from day one and that's definitely the best approach, all the way through the month, as it apparently reduces stress and obviously you're covered if the opks are not accurate or if you don't use them for whatever reason.

Sorry - I posted my reply before reading your second post!

Used the OPK but didn't rely on them. Didn't take any chances but was glad to have them for piece of mind incase I was had very irregular cycles. I suppose it was the sixth month?

(DTD every single day from day ten to be sure, to be sure Wink )

Hello, i was using OPK's for two cycles when i got my BFP, i was using the cheapie ones and thought i was getting positives thinking any line means positive the first month i used it, however the second month i got a proper dark line (on profile) compared to the control line which was a definite positive Smile and that was the month i got my BFP, i am 7 weeks today!!

Have you tried the Sperm meets egg plan!!

Yup we have been dabbling in a bit of SMEP but never quite get it spot on due to our shifts!

Eg this month i got a positive OPK on cd20.. We dtd cd18, cd20 (twice) and cd 22... Annoyingly didnt get to dtd on cd21! Blah.

Time will tell!

Just wondered if people with irregular cycles (like me) get faster results after using OPKs. Hoping so!

Last month I didn't get a positive OPK til cd25 so we decided to start SMEP on cd18 this month (couldn't really start properly before that anyway as I was away visiting my sister)... Luckily i didnt get a positive opk before then.

Then I ended up getting a positive OPK on cd20! Grin

Well i had a kind of regular cycle mostly, but ever so often it would throw in a really long one Hmm

I got a positive on the thurs, so dtd on the thurs, fri missed sat, and then again on sunday!!

Fx this is your month!!

Tea1Sugar · 16/08/2013 06:23

Second month for me using cb dual digi. Good luck Smile

MissTweed · 16/08/2013 06:39

Not sure what you mean by OPK but if they are the same as LH strips (which pinpoint when you ovulate using hormone detection) then I also used them. I have particularly long cycles and was also DTD at the wrong times. Like you DTD every two days when both of you work weird shifts is not easy!! Second month of using them (and a lunchbreak quickie!!) and got a positive!! Now 30w preggo!! Grin the only annoying thing was that I had bought a 6 month supply but my friend was very grateful! Smile

Could anyone tell me more about Sperm meets egg?
2nd month TTC just starting (CD2), last month didn't dtd as much as we wanted as some of the rooms we were staying in South Africa were too thin-walled for romance!
DH works shifts so may take a little military-style planning to get more sex in - but he doesn't seem to kind the concept Grin

cookielove · 16/08/2013 08:22

English the sperm meets egg plan or smep for short, is you use opk's to test when you're ov'ing. On cd 10 start dtd ever other day, when you get a positive opk dtd for 3 days straight miss a day and then dtd again.

It worked first time for us :)

Middy75 · 16/08/2013 11:35

We were ttc for 3 cycles before I started using opk's and did smep at same time. Got my BFP that month. Weirdly I had loads of pregnancy symptoms the month before and got BFN then AF but month after had no symptoms at all and even bought more opk's for the next month before I got a very faint BFP.
