Hi there,

I'm looking for some reassurance and I'm not sure that I will get any, but here goes... Sorry if it's a bit long...

Recently I have had a number of blood tests and scans as we have been referred to the fertility clinic. We already have one DD, 4 years old and we started trying for DC2 Apriil 2012.

I also had a smear recently and asked them to do some swabs to make sure all was fine in that department. All came back clear.

However last July I had a MC which showed signs of being ectopic although it was never confirmed as I had a natural MC at 5 weeks. It was the increase of HCG even though I was already bleeding that led them to believe it might be ectopic.

Go back to 16 years ago and I had a call from a recent ex-Boyfriend who said he had Chlamydia so I got tested straight away and was put on Anti-bs provided by the GUM clinic as a precaution while they awaited the results. My results came back clear. I did actually have a bacterial infection that they treated with Anti-bs aswell, but the chlamydia test was clear.

So back to present day and I had my appointment with the fertility clinic two weeks ago. They said that even though all my recent tests (including swabs) have come back fine, they wanted to just check for Chlamydia antibodies and also for Rubella immunity as that test hadn't been done either.

Results would take two weeks, so due tomorrow. However, we have had a call from our GP surgery today saying that we need to go to the surgery and both DH and I have to have a blood test. The fertility clinic has asked for this. But with no explanation as to why and that it's the same test that has already been done.

Now DH recently donated blood so surely he would have been tested for all this prior to that as it's the first time he's donated???

DH thinks they must have lost my sample, but if that's the case, why are they asking for him to be tested when it was just me that they tested two weeks ago. On the flip side, why are they asking me to be tested again when they will already have the result?

And my final question is, how would my recent swab have come back clear for Chlamydia if I'd had it previously and never known or got it treated? And how have I had a healthy pregnancy (resulting in DD) and two other PGs (unfortunately early MCs) if I've had Chlamydia.

I know that i'm clutching at straws and I need to speak to teh fertility clinic tomorrow (and give them a piece of my mind that they didn't call me first to explain why they have requested another test)...

But if anyone can give me an explanation for any of this, I would be grateful, I'm so worried... Sad

I'm confused - you say you've previously been tested for chlamydia and it was clear but you've recently had another screening for it just in case. You don't say that you've actually tested positive for it... have you been told you have it?

Sorry - I'm just feeling a bit shell-shocked...

So to clarify, I have been tested recently for fertility reasons (hormone levels, FSH/LH etc etc) and to rule out any other potential issues I had a smear and swabs done to rule out anything else. All came back clear. We took all these results to the fertility clinic. When going through all the results they noticed that even though a Chlamydia test had been done recently (a swab) that had come back clear, when the blood tests had been done, they hadn't tested for the Antibodies that may indicate that I'd had it previously. So they did that test two weeks ago, just to rule it out.

16 years ago I was also tested for it because an ex found out he had it. Back then I was clear aswell (although had the Anti-biotics prescribed at the time just in case, so took them).

So in regards the times I've been tested for it via swabs, all have come back clear.

I don't really understand enough about it though. Could I have had it without realising and it went away on it's own??? Thus that would have created antibodies.

I haven't been able to speak to anyone because we didn't get the message until late, but the only reason I can imagine that they would ask both DH AND I to go and have the test, is that the test two weeks ago, may have shown positive for antibodies... Is that possible if all swabs (recent and years ago) came back clear??? Could I have had it again without knowing and it's cured itself but has presented antibodies??

I don't think it can sure itself so I think the antibody check is just something they are doing to be doubly sure. After all, they're trying to help you find out any problems.

There's nothing wrong with you calling the surgery or clinic tomorrow and asking why they wanted you to be retested - it is your right to know.
