Acne after the Mirena?

Hi all

I wonder if anyone has any experience or can help.

I had my Mirena out in Feb 2013 to try for a baby. No luck yet but the past two months my hormones have felt much "stronger" if that makes sense- stronger PMT, heavier flow of period, more painful boobs in the second half of the month etc.

To go with this though I now seem to have developed adult acne. It's mainly on my forehead and its horrible- red, angry and painful with a mix of white heads and cyst like spots. I had bad spots aged 14-16ish and took an antibiotic for it but when I went to the doctor recently he said that the drug I took back then had since been taken off the market and he could only prescribe topical solutions. None of them work at all and my local chemist told me yesterday that products containing Benzoyl Peroxide and Salicylic Acid have recently been taken off the market too- whilst these weren't perfect as they're so drying I could use them with some success.

I'm at the end of my rope with it really. I've tried slathering my skin in everything the internet can suggest from a solution of Epsom Salts, tea tree oil, neat Dettol, canestan cream, live yoghurt.... I will try anything really.

Please help wise mumsnetters. You always have the solution!

Sudocrem seems to help with inflammation. Just put layer on before bedtime, rub it into the skin.
I can sympathise though. I went on the pill because of acne and now I've gone off it, it came back although not as bad as in my teens. It was worse when I got my period this month. Sudocrem, I'm not sure if it's helping for sure, but I do know the gels prescribed by the GP never did anything but burn my skin.

I have suffered from acne since I was a teenager and I am now well into my 40s! Mine has noticeably improved since I started using Bare Minerals skincare and make-up. I use the night serum and the basic moisturiser. They don't advertise it as helping acne but it has really improved my skin. Maybe worth a try. There is lavender in the moisturiser and I wondered if that had some antiseptic properties in it.

Thanks ladies. I am intrigued about bare minerals and will try.

I agree that the stuff the GP gives just stings. It's so frustrating.

The thing about the bare minerals is that it feels dry on your face. It doesn't feel like you have some thick painted goo like you do with cream foundations. It is nice and light.
