About to start trying for baby at 38 - any other older women trying again?

I'm 38 and already have 2 boys - aged six and three and a half. Both times, I fell pregnant fairly easily. Just about to try for our third and last baby. Hoping that it'll happen again. Anyone in the same situation?

Hi. I'm trying again at 42! Had my DS a few weeks before my 40th birthday. Pregnancy went really smoothly. No complications. In fact my two much younger friends had a much harder time than I did. I think it's all down to luck. At 38 I think you still have time on your side. Good luck!

I'm in a similar situation, 37 with 2 DS age 7&4, got pregnant straight away with both but this time it's not happening yet! When I saw Dr when I was considering TTC she said my age shouldn't be a barrier but I'm thinking about going back for advice as nothing is happening after 9 months of trying. I suspect it's something to do with age but I'm also about a stone heavier than last time and we are perhaps not as frequent as we should be!

Good luck and fingers crossed for both!

Hello
I'm 39 and just about to start trying for my first! Feeling very excited and incredibly nervous. Just hoping I haven't left it too late.

Just discussed this with DP last night - am 41 so feel that the window for having a second is quite short. He feels we're still too stretched with DS, and maybe we were lucky with him and should stick with one. Haven't actually restarted periods yet anyway (DS is almost 1), so we couldn't start yet, but wondering how you made the decision to TTC?

Feel like if time were no object, I'd wait till DS was 4, but that's not really a good option.

Well I am 38 and so excited to be trying for our first :))
Have been off the pill and trying for bout 8 months now .
Just had a day 21 blood test done which showed I am ovulating but also that I may have an underactive thyroid ( which explains my tiredness lately)
Anyway, my doctor has referred me for an ultrasound to check everything ok inside and also partner for SA just to rule anything out .
I will confess that I told doctor we been trying for about 18 months - well it can't hurt lol

I'm 37 and just found out I'm expecting no3. I did fall pregnant very quickly with my first 2 but no 3 has taken a while and I also suffered a miscarriage in may, so fingers crossed this pregnancy goes the distance.

I'm 40; DD1 is 20, DD2 is 18 (both from my 1st marriage - their father died nearly 7 years ago) and DD3 is 6. I've also had 4 mc. DP and I decided last year we wanted to give DD3 a little sibling, but our first two tries ended in mc (September last year & Jan this year). We'd decided to hold off on trying again until after we get married next year, but the GP thinks I may be perimenopausal, which means time really isn't on my side - so we're TTC now.

Thanks, good to hear I'm not the only one. Good luck for those of you trying and for those who are pregnant. @guthriegirl - thanks, that makes me feel a lot better : ). Fingers crossed for us both @ maybe3x. I'm just so excited! @slightlysoupstained - I would've tried before now but my husband wasn't sure about a third but has had a change of heart, so I'm going with it! x

I'm 37, and trying for DC2 - DS1 is now 2. It took about four years for us to have DS, so we'll see how it goes...

Nicenurse · 07/08/2013 17:49

Good luck @ lemonpoppyseed! Hope it happens quicker for you this time x
