I was sterilised over 8yrs ago, I was due to go for an operation to remove fibriods due to heavy painfully periods, but after feeling sick every morning I decided to take a pregnancy test which tested positive I did 4 in total 2 from 2 diferant kits, but I've also had 2 negative blood results and I'm due to go again tomorrow for another test, i have had some bleeding but only for 3days and not as heavy usualy i bleed for up to 12 days and i am unable to leave the house as it is to heavy, I have had all symptoms of pregnancy and if I am I will be 18wks, my doctor said I wouldn't bleed and that the blood test is accurate, that I'm not pregnant and I should still have my pop but I was told at my pre-opp if I am pregnant and had the opp it would terminate the pregnancy which I don't want to do. I am really confused

I have no advice, just wanted to say I hope you get some answers soon. The not knowing must be hard

snoozysleeper · 05/08/2013 00:22

I'm really sorry I don't know the answer but didn't want to read and run...have you spoken to the person who is doing the operation?

Usually if they deal with fibroids they are obstetric and gynaecology consultants (always combined into one specialty). It might be that the obs and gynae consultant you are under can give you the specialist advice that you need

Can you push for a scan ?

LongTailedTit · 05/08/2013 00:52

Agree with Billy^^, a scan would confirm one or the other - I don't understand your doctor dismissing your home pg tests as I've always been told that there's no such thing as a false positive, but that false negatives are possible.
I hope they can put your mind at rest.

Thanks for all your replies x i asked the nurse who was going to do my pre-opp if i could be scanned as i was worried incase it may have been eptopic she said she couldent and just did a blood test,
My doctor said if he requested a scan it would be rejected but if i have another blood test and it is negative again he will wright to my gyno and ask him to give me a scan before i have the opp because I told him I wasent having it done untill i know. I was suppose to have it done July 26th.
My doctor said the positive tests might have been because i was but miscarriaged and not know but I don't think I have my pain and bleeding would have been worse not better.

I'm glad your Doc is being helpful, albeit within the limits he has to operate in.
I agree you would expect a heavier period not lighter, but, it could have just thrown all your cycle timings off too. It may still come.
How do you feel about it now? I hope the reassurance of the promised scan has helped.

Reeeeally have to go to bed now! Hope you get some sleep too.

A private scan won't be much, probably less than £100 if it's just a quick one to see if a pregnancy is there.

How did this turn out where you pregnant? Just I have the exact same problem just now xx
