I've just bought smep and want to pick up some opk's thought the clear blue ones looked quite good but then I noticed there were two types!

What's the difference and why do you like them?

One's 'standard' and shows only the Peak fertility days ie the two best days to have sex for conception. Usually this is the day of ovulation and the day before, but can be the two days before ovulation.

The advanced ones (more expensive) show High fertility days AND Peak fertility days. You should get a minimum of three days in total, but most people get four and some get more.

I spoke to CB's careline and they advised that if your cycles are irregular, you're better using the standard ones as they cannot become 'confused' - Peak fertility is always peak fertility, whereas High can get a bit muddled.

The CB advance pack of 20 is currently quite cheap on amazon, just over £20, Boots also has a special offer on but is charging quite a bit more.

Boots was £20 when I bought them there last month - sounds like it might depend on area, so have a look.

Thanks I had a look at boots and they are doing a special deal on cb at the moment £21 will need to look at amazon again.

The boots ones only contain 10 sticks, whereas amazon has 20 sticks for the same price!

The normal ones only measure LH, which is the same as the cheap sticks do from the internet. The advanced also measures oestrogen. It detects a rise in oestrogen, which happens a few days before the LH surge, so it gives you advanced warning of when ov might come up. This period can last 2 days, but can also last a lot longer, such as 5 or 7 days. Then it detects the LH surge just like the other ones.
