Ovulation ? Now what?

By my ovulation app and my clearblue ovulation fixed smiley I ovulated today or yesterday I DTD on the Sunday Fridays Thursday and Wednesday lol (poor hubby) do I continue to have sex now or wait to see if my period comes. I'm really down in the dumps today and no in the mood to DTD all I want is a little baby Blush

Sperm will live inside you for a couple of days so you don't need to DTD every day, I'd say you can prob afford to wait for a morning quicky. I am sorry you feel so down, I know the feeling, me and DP have been trying for over a year and a half.

Your egg will only live for around 24 hours after ovulation so sex post O needs to be within that timeframe. But if you have had sec in the 2 - 5 days pre O that would also have been in your fertile window

I think I ovulated on the 8th July and me and hubby had DTD on the 3rd, 6th and 8th. We got a BFP from it so as has been said, I think as long as sex is being had leading up to ovulation there is a good chance it will happen Smile

Thanks guys I've defiantly ovulated sorry for too much info but I don't have any CM yesterday was EW CM so defo passed its the waiting game now I guess good luck to you all and congrats on your BFP writerwannabe

Well hopefully you will get yours too. Me and hubby were very surprised at the BFP - it was our first month of trying and we'd only had sex 3 times. But, I guess it just takes one time at the right time.

I hope you get your BFP too - my fingers are crossed for you Smile

ps) you can never provide TMI on Mumsnet - I don't think any of us have any shame. TTC isn't exactly a glamorous business Grin

Me too now. From cm and cb opks pretty sure I ovulated yesterday cd13. We dtd days 7,9,11,13 so now in 2ww. Good luck!

So, just to clarify, it's recommended to dtd every other day because sperm can live in the body for two days? That way, even though an egg lives for only 24 hours, you would either have sex on the day of ovulation or the day after?

Sperm can live for 5 days I think Smile

But I suppose the fresher the sperm at the time of ovulation the better chance of a successful conception? I'm sure I have heard that the egg can actually die after 12 hours of being released if not fertilised.

I think the general idea is that it's best to regular sex leading up to ovulation because then when the egg is released the sperm is already there, ready and waiting Smile

Yep, the egg survives on average for 16 hours, whilst sperm lasts 2 days or more (in rare cases conception happened from dtd 7 days before ov!). It needs EWCM to survive though. So if you have sex two or one day before ovulation, it should be enough to conceive. Most successful pregnancies are from these days. Sex on the day of ovulation is good as well. The day after is usually too late or if the egg is too old might not lead to a successful pregnancy.

You can have sex every day around ov time if you want, it shouldn't harm sperm production.

Haven't yet decided whether to work out when I'm ovulating so we can increase dtd or whether to just dtd every two days throughout the whole month. The former sounds like a good idea but perhaps more stressful!

Definitely the latter. It's more natural, less prescribed. Ttc shouldn't be stressful in the beginning. I succumbed to opks and cm checks now and it's only my second cycle. Really wish I was more chilled. Still, we've been dtd every other day since cd7

I see! Well, I think I may have to check cm from day one because I don't know if and when my cycle is going to come back so it would be nice to have a rough idea!

EWCM means egg white cervical mucus. It's what you get in your fertile days, a few days before and until ovulation. It's the perfect environment for sperm to survive in. When you get it you'll know, it's clear (but can be mixed in with creamy discharge) and it stretches between your fingers.

I would just have sex every other day, but if you get tired you can try and focus your efforts around the most fertile time. If you have regular periods, your ovulation would be between 10 to 16 before your period, so you can calculate when these days are for your next cycle. Then have loads of sex every other day starting a few days before this period and ending a few days after (so e.g. between 7 and 19 days before your next period). If you don't have regular cycles this is unreliable and then it's better to just keeping dtd the whole month.

Thank you for explaining. I've got two books - Plan to get Pregnant and What to expect when you're Expecting - and have been trying to get my head around the biology! Here's hoping my cycle settles down nice and quickly! Not that we're gonna wait for it; we're dtd every other day already.

three, some don't notice the cm as for them it just stays at the opening of the cervix, where it matters the most. I'm sorry it's taking so long, have you seen a doctor to see what could be the problem?

Not yet. We have a 3 yr old so know it all must have been working at one point! Had colposcopy and loop excision in May and had no CM since then.
Anyway don't mean to de-rail thread, good luck to all those ttc.

Good luck three. Do try conception plus or preseed or other conception lubricants. You can get them in boots and amazon etc. In a book I was reading it said you could use fresh egg whites as well, but I don't think would fancy that!

How silly that every single little thing that happens, I already wonder if it's a sign of pregnancy?! I literally cannot stop weeing this week, it's ridiculous. But even though the pill must still be in my system and therefore I can't yet be preggers, I'm hoping that somehow it's a sign that I magically am.

Thanks for all the info I've had to good CM EW DC ETC lol I feel part if the forum now I know what the initials are. I hope all you lovely ladies get BFP soon as well its the waiting game now, I got to Egypt on Sunday it's Probaly for the best to stop me obsessing my period is due end of hoilday eeekkkk!!
