Drinking alcohol and ttc.

And pregnancy in general. When did you stop drinking? I like a glass of wine or two of an evening, occasionally a whole bottle at the weekend. Am ttc - very early days. I like to think i will stop drinking as soon as i get a bfp but should i stop while trying?

I didn't when TTC, the baby isn't connected to the mother until after you know you're pregnant so they're not going to be affected by alcohol. I don't totally stop drinking in pregnancy, I don't drink very often anyway so the once every 2-3 months didn't bother me.

I've cut down while ttc but not cut it out completely.

well you don't have to stop drinking while ttc, but it would be better if you stay under the recommended level, so not more than 2-3 units per day and have at least one day per week without alcohol. A bottle of wine is 10 units and one glass can therefore be 2-3 units! It's better for your health and therefore will increase your chances of conceiving.

notta, i'm ttc and havent stopped drinking completely.I dont drink at all during the week anyway but i like nothing more than a glass of wine after work on friday. I will stop totally as soon as i get my bpf until then im going to keep enjoying a glass or two at the weekends. Maybe you could start by cutting down a little? Ttc can be a long hard road and my friday nights glass of wine has kept me a little saner!! Not sure how much this helps :)

i dont drink during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy

after that stage i drink but stop once i feel the effect of the alcohol. probably twice a week.

until about 38 weeks when i have drunk a bit more

Both times I stopped when the bfp came up. Second time I wasn't drinking that much anyway as-trying-to-deal-with-a-hangover-whilst-listening-to-screeching-just-isn't-fun I realise I'm lucky though and got pregnant very quickly both times.
