Does anyone know if there is anything scientific to say that if you conceived easily first time around that it will be as easy/you are less likely to encounter difficulties second time around? I think first time has no bearing on second time around but my DH and a few friends have said they think does. I'd like to know to settle this once and for all - any studies or stats for me?? The context here is that we were hugely lucky to get pregnant immediately with DD but considering having number two and I think we can't assume it will be the same and we should start trying soon rather than later in case it takes a while.

Dd was conceived on the pill despite me never missing a single one. I shall report back next week when Af is due whether or not this first cycle of ttc number 2 has been so simple!

It took me six months to conceive dd1 but we were going through quite a bit of family stress at the time and I think it was my body's way of saying nope, not ready for baby as well!

Dd2 however, bam, pregnant at first try.

No pattern whatsoever. Is that any help? Grin

DS was conceived after two mnths off the pill, we decided after 6 year that we wanted another and baby so number two was also conceived after two mnths off the pill. Sadly we MMC in April at 17 weeks pregnant. We have just started to TTC again so hopefully nxt mnth should b are BFP.

Secondary infertility (difficulty having a second child, here ) is sadly frequent enough to have a name. Some people happen to be fortunate the first t one but that doesn't mean they're going to be fortunate next time. It's sad. I hope/know your DH isn't a statistician, I hope his job doesn't invole assessing risk. But mainly I wish unwanted infertility didn't happen to anyone.

My friend got pregnant on her first cycle with her first child and her first cycle again with her second child.

It took us 9 months for TTC#1..........it's currently taken us 3.5 years TTC#2....and no luck yet!

DC1 was a happy surprise, but DC2 took over a year of TTC...currently 37 weeks and should be here soon!

Thank you all, I think what your replies show support my view, I.e. that it is basically pot luck and we can't assume we will be lucky 2nd time! Good luck to you all

Ds was conceived while on the pill. It took two years to conceive dd.
