TTC do you put your life on hold? making plans for next year

We're ttc dc2. after becoming pg quite quickly after comjng off contraception I've just had a miscarriage Sad we're keen to start trying again as quickly as we can but I know it might take months (or longer).

Thing is we'd like to book a foreign holiday for April/May time next year. but should we delay plans, if I do get pg quickly I might be 8 months gone by then. Can't leave it too late to book because will miss out on free child place and the nature of my job I need to book leave quite far in advance. So do we put plans like this on hold just in case I am pg? could really do with some cheering up and booking a holiday might help Smile but I dont want to spend our savings on a holiday that we might have to cancel.

Personally I would never put off TTC for a "what if". I was TTC for 3 years (finally got my BFP 2 weeks ago Grin) so you just don't know how long it will take.

What a difficult situation to be in.

If you were to book the holiday, how much notice would you have to give to cancel it in order to get your money back? Or at least some of it?

You would also have to check with the airlines what their cut-off date is in terms of allowing you to fly when pregnant. I know some airlines don't let women fly after 28 weeks gestation, and others airlines request medical clearance before allowing a pregnant woman onboard if she is further than 35 weeks along.

Saying that though - would you want to risk being in another country in the potential month where labour could begin?

I'm really 'funny' about things like this and if I were in your situation I would never let my husband book the holiday as that would be like saying, "You aren't going to get pregnant any time soon" - and I'm more for having lots of optimism Smile

My husband has recently talked about us going away next year but I have told him there is no point discussing it as I will be pregnant, lol. I have no idea if I will be but that is the positive stance I'm taking Smile

I suppose your options are:

  1. Delay TTC for 3-4 months so if you did get pregnant then it wouldn't affect your holiday.

  2. Continue to TTC and be aware that if you book the holiday there is a chance it may have to be cancelled - and think about all the issues surrounding that.

  3. Continue to TTC and don't book the holiday.

Hard options I know Smile

congrats on the bfp frankelly. we're not going to delay ttc but just wondered whether its sensible to plan anything so far in advance as there's a chance I might be pg then but also dont want to completely put our lives on hold as it'll be a while (years?) before we will go on a foreign holiday with 2 dc.

never thought of it as it being like saying 'wont get pg anytime soon' does seem like jynxing it a bit. might just need to wait and hope it doesn't get too expensive to go if we book later.
