Chlomid - Multiple births

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 04/06/2006 17:45

Had Lap and Dye Thursday and they found nothing. Conceived both daughters 1st month but last one stillborn 12 months ago.

Doc said he was reluctant to give me chlomid and is going to leave me until Nov as he thinks I will conceive naturally long before then. Thinks block in my head and there is a danger of a multiple if I take chlomid given that I caught so quickley before.
I am 39 next month and wondered what people thought and if anyone knows of anyone having twins or more on chlomid and what its like generally?
Thanks
x

how long have you been TTC this time chocpeanut

I took low-dosage clomid even though was ovulating my post-luteal phase was too short .. had no issues with it and conceived single child first cycle .. however there is an increased risk of multiple births

glad you started this, i would like to know too, ive been given clomid, i lost a twin when i had ds

wannaBe1974 · 04/06/2006 20:10

I have a friend who conceived twins on Chlomid

PanicPants · 04/06/2006 20:13

I was on chlomid for 13 months before I conceived ds, and he wasn't a twin!

But I do think there is an increased chance you might have a multiple birth.

coggy · 04/06/2006 20:19

I was told that there was a small chance of multiple pg. They went on to give the stats...1 in 25.
I'd say that was a high chance myself - 1/4 !!

I conceived ds after having 3 months of 50mg cloimid and then coming off.
I have to admit a little sigh of relief when I had my early (seven week) scan and only saw one heartbeat.
I reacted very well to clomid apparently as I have about 4 eggs each month - could have easily been very multiple!

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 05/06/2006 15:08

Dont get me wrong as I am desperate for another child but I am 39 next month and have a 2.d dd. Twins would financially cripple us and see me off for sure

But if I am still in same boat in Nov then i might just have to take the risks but given that I am going to be scared to death next time that I might have another stllborn, its seems a small risk to take

I think the risk of multiple births is greater with higher doses of clomid.

coggy · 05/06/2006 18:53

ChocolatePeanut - my ds, who I conceived after three months of clomid, was stillborn.
I am desperate to be pg again but I just hope that it won't be spoilt by what happened before.
I guess it will be hard to relax into it so easily as before.

My ds was born exactly a year ago this week, around the same time as your dd.

((((((hugs)))))

Hiya, I was prescribed 50mg clomid & was told my chances of having twins was increased to 1 in 10, so quite high. But that's still a 90% chance of not having twins! Age (35+) also comes in to it, btw - sorry. Main side effects for me were terrible mood swings - but it was all worth it as I conceived on 3rd clomid cycle. I now have to wait another 2 weeks or so to see whether I just have one on board...... or not! Iona x

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 05/06/2006 20:50

Hugs back to you coggy x

Do you have any other children? I know my first dd was a blessing and dont know how i get through without her

I also suffer from hyperemesis for first four months as well so IF i get pregnant again its going to be a long haul.

No ds was our first. We waited nearly five years ttc him so life can be cruel sometimes!

Still...I am always hopeful each month!
How old is your first dd?

Twiglett · 06/06/2006 20:58

oh coggy I didn't know .. I'm so sorry Sad

Hi there everyone,

Just wanted to add something to the thread about multiple births.

I am a teacher and in my class I have a set of twins. Next year I am expecting their siblings... another set of twins! There are now 5 in that family and all of them were conceived naturally. No other twins in the family or anything like that... so I guess the chances of ending up with multiple births would be higher if you are on clomid!

DH and I would be stoked if ended up with 2 at the same time.. although I guess we would be run off our feet!

Will be pleased with whatever I am gioven..IYKWIM.

TTC now for 2 years.
