Trying to lose weight while TTC

Mistyautumn · 30/06/2013 18:43

Just looking to see if there is anyone else out there like me who is trying to conceive but also trying to lose weight?

I know ideally I would like to be a perfectly healthy weight but DH and I also feel that now is the time to start trying as there is never a perfect time to have a baby.

Hi Misty, me too! I don't have much to lose, maybe a stone max; I've lost a bit recently with the help of the lovely Mumsnetters on the weight loss thread, always nice to have support.

Unless your GP says otherwise then why not start TTC? It gives you an incentive to lose weight if nothing else (this is what I tell myself as I'm slogging up and down the path where I go running!!)

Good luck Grin

Me three! I'm ashamed to say I lost all my baby weight before we got married, but in the last year I've put the whole lot back on again & am 2 stone heavier than I was when I fell pg with ds & I was already a little overweight then. Blush

I recently made a determined effort to lose weight, lost 6lb & then fell pg again (after 15 cycles trying). Sadly I mc last week, so I'm going to try & continue the weight loss & hope that next time I get a sticky bean. Am hoping to lose at least 1.5 stone, but to be brutally honest I could probably do to lose 2.5.

So what are you both doing to lose it? Are you actively dieting or exercising? When I started recently, all I did was cut out snacking & cut my portion sizes right back. I still had all the same foods as before, but a much smaller serving, with heaps more veg instead, & I tried not to eat too much bread as I find it really bloats me. I was amazed how quickly it started to come off so I need to get back on it as well as start exercising more.

RubySlippers77 · 30/06/2013 23:48

Hi omama! Firstly very sorry to hear about your mc, that must have been tough - wishing you happier news soon Smile

I've started running again after many years, which I do find effective, plus I joined a local ladies-only running club for a bit of motivation! Food-wise I've been following the Harcombe diet; I did the 5 day kick start plan last year & lost 5lb, but more to the point felt a lot better for it as like you I found that I don't react well to bread. So now I'm eating lots of protein & veg and the only carbs I have are porridge and brown rice, no bread, potatoes, pasta etc. Of course I will add that that's an ideal week when the Kitkats don't lure me to them...!

DarlingBudsOfMay · 01/07/2013 04:23

Hi all, I'm new to Mumsnet and also trying to lose weight before TTC after the nurse at the GP surgery suggested it. Have about a stone to lose, but would be happy to lose half that tbh. I came off the Pill 2 days ago to get to know my cycle, been on the pill for 6 years and remember it being irregular, we're using another form of contraceptive in the meantime. Trying to eat sensibly/calorie count...but exercise doesn't enthuse me unfortunately!

DarlingBudsOfMay · 01/07/2013 04:33

Sorry, should have said, sorry to hear about you MC omama, it's good to focus on the positives though, hopefully next time will work out.

Mistyautumn · 01/07/2013 07:12

Sorry about your MC Omama.

I have a bit more weight to lose than both of you so I am doing Slimming World at the moment. DH has also joined me, although he only needs to lose a couple of lbs he wanted to help me out as I have very little willpower when it comes to eating. I am a massive comfort eater so struggle in the 2ww and when AF rears her ugly head!

I am trying too!! I have had 2 miscarriages since feb and am determined to drop weight and hopefully have a successful pregnancy next time. I'm calorie counting to begin with then plan to introduce exercise - I have about 3 stone to lose (I am going to break it into half stone blocks otherwise it seems impossible!!) x

DarlingBudsOfMay · 01/07/2013 18:55

Sorry to hear that Mummy, I think that's a good attitude though, I have struggled with weight throughout my life but I know that if I eat 3 sensible meals a day and try not to eat inbetween or when I have to, eat fruit, then this is enough to make a real difference in how I feel in my clothes and and gives me incentive to continue -that's half the battle for me. I've never liked faddy diets, good old fashioned less food, move more philosophy works!

But saying that, I've just had three rich teas and a yoghurt before dinner (thanks AF!) :)

Mistyautumn · 01/07/2013 20:23

Feeling quite proud of myself. Managed to stick to plan for the last couple of days despite BFN. I have poas early I think, cycles are messed up father pill so there is still hope! X

Can I join in too? I would like to lose two stone, I lost a stone at the start of the year but got pregnant in May (miscarried this month Hmm) and put on about 16lb so I'd really like to lose that and more. I want to be in tip top condition health wise for TTC.

I just started today calorie counting and trying to be more active. Went out for 50min walk tonight which is nothing compared to the gym and swim I used to do but it's a start!

LisaC2611 · 02/07/2013 09:39

Can I join too? I was a regular on mn a while back but after 19 months of trying I drifted off. Have been told by fertility dr that I need to get my Bmi down to 30 by the end if October if I want to start ivf. Have cut right down on what I eat, very little carbs just lots of protein and veg/ salad, got myself a personal trainer and have started doing the couch to 5k programme. Have lost 2.5 stone since the beginning if this year and have probably got at least another 3 to go to get my Bmi down. But it's starting to notice the weight loss now and people are noticing too which is always a good confidence boost.

I would like to join too please. This is a great idea for a thread. We have a seven month old pfb and would like to start ttc next month. I was soooooo huge when I pregnant last time and want to be able to fit enough that I can more easily move about and look after our ds if I am lucky enough to get pregnant again. Have had a few days of a blip but am really just trying the old fashioned 'eat less move more' approach.

DisneyDiva87 · 03/07/2013 11:47

I'd like to lose a bit of weight to and actually went for my first run in ages this morning! I'm aiming for the eat less move more philosophy too, I believe that fad diets just make you put on more weight when you stop following them. Hoping to lose 1 stone but thinking that 0.5 is a more realistic target.

One point to remember though is that proper athletes can't keep their body shape and muscle tone without the occasional cheat day so don't worry if you splurge on chocolate and cake once every 7-10 days, in fact it's good for you [grins] keeps your metabolism on it's toes.

I hope a whole tub of Tesco's Marinated Greek Olives count as diet food Hmm

RubySlippers77 · 05/07/2013 19:39

DisneyDiva - I splurged on half a chocolate muffin at Legoland today - but I did also do a lot of walking!! However, I think the amount of food I'll be scoffing at a party tomorrow combined with a lack of running (too hot) means no weight loss for me this week, so back to it properly next week.....

qazxc · 05/07/2013 19:56

Can i join? I have a lot to lose Blush about 4 or 5 stone. I was nearly 17st and have lost about 10lbs.

pizzaqueen · 05/07/2013 20:07

welcome quazxc. does anyone want to weigh in every week to share what we've lost and help keep motivated?

RubySlippers77 · 05/07/2013 20:09

Good idea pizzaqueen! I am 10st 7lb, would ideally like to be just under 10st. At my thinnest I was around 9st but I think those days have long gone!!

fifi669 · 06/07/2013 19:37

Are you losing weight before TTC or during? I'm about 3 stone overweight I think as I'm 13 stone and short. OH isn't sure I should as odds of multiples increase with larger ladies and he quite fancies twins... I don't fancy diabetes though!

Elektra83 · 06/07/2013 20:30

Can I join too? My weight has been up and down for a couple of years now which is frustrating...we started ttc earlier this year and then stopped. Not sure when we are going to start trying again tbh :( but I figured in the meantime I will focus on getting healthy and active again so that I can (hopefully) remain active if/when I eventually get upduffed!

I'm trying to eat better and am working out 5 days a week with my PT (it's scary but worth it) only started the exercising this week and am excited to see its effect on me!

I'm not exactly sure how much I need to lose but I'd say it was about 3 stones

qazxc · 06/07/2013 21:03

AF has arrived, so that's me out for this month. I'll do weekly weigh in starting next week (me and DP are off to see the family for a week in france this week), do we all do it on the same day?

fanjodisfunction · 07/07/2013 06:26

I just wanted to tell all you ladies that you can do it and that it does help and work.

Everytime I fell pg was after I had lost a stone or over! I've been pg four times, two ended in mc but I'm currently 23 weeks pg, I lost two stone before this pg.

Keep at it ladies and good luck!

pizzaqueen · 08/07/2013 16:10

How's everyone getting on? I managed to lose 4.8lbs this week. Grin

I'm really pleased with that as I hadn't made it to the gym this week, met a friend out for dinner and had a bbq!! avoided crisps, choc and other junk altogether though.

omama · 08/07/2013 19:15

wow that's great pizzaqueen!!!

I've not had the best of weeks, on hols this week so ate out a few times, 2 bbq's & a few ice creams in all this glorious sunshine! No exercise yet as waiting for bleeding to stop before I start (sorry tmi). Still, I've managed to lose 1lb so I'm happy & am back on it this week so we'll see how I go!
