This is dh's third sperm analysis, they've all been a bit rubbish. The specialist told us that a natural conception wasn't likely but would take longer. We have one child already conceived first month of trying. We've now been trying nine months for the second one.

Today we've had his latest results which are the best they've been but the woman on the phone told us they'd recommend icsi.

These are the results:

Volume: 2.6ml (normal 1.5ml or more)
Number: 36.5 (normal 15 million or more)
Total number 94.9
Motility: 20% forward progressive
6% slow progressive (these together should be 40% I think)
Morphology 4% (normal 4% or more) so borderline.

Does icsi seem a bit extreme? We have to see the specialist next week to discuss the results.

I'm starting to try to accept I will never have enough baby and it makes me very very sad.

Sorry should say the specialist told us originally that a natural conception was possible but would take longer.

Those results would fall into the criteria for ICSI at my clinic, just based on the motility - the count and morphology look normal.

As the consultant says a normal conception is possible. However if you are going for assisted conception then the clinic would recommend ICSI to maximise your chances of a good number of embryos being created.

Thanks. So the motility is a major problem? Is iui out?
I wonder if our first conception was some sort of freak?! Dh has stopped drinking and is taking fertility blend but he is very very stressed at work so we wonder if that has made an impact.
