Question for those who have been to the GP re infertility

I've decided to bite the bullet and am going to seek help from the GP re our inability to conceive. I just wondered whether those who have already gone down that road could give me a clue what to expect? And did you take your husband/partner with you to the appointment?

Thanks!

I went to the first appointment on my own. He sent me for day 2 and 21 bloods and told me to send my husband to his own GP for a SA. All results were normal. At that point he referred us on to the fertility clinic.

Mine was exactly the same as eurozammo's, with the addition of my GP referring me for a pelvic ultrasound before referring me on to the fertility clinic.

I did this years ago, the first question they ask is how long you have been trying. If its less than a year they won't do anything.

I think it would be a good idea to go as a couple, as it is both of you who have the problem. They will ask questions about your cycle, your general health, you sex life etc. They may take blood sample from you, and at some stage will need a semen sample from your partner. What happens next will depend on the results of these tests.

Good luck, I hope it works out for you!

I decided to go to GP about 8 weeks ago for an infertility chat. I went on my own. Exactly the same story as eurozammo with bloods and OH to his GP for SA. All normal and so now have appt with fertility clinic at beginning of July.
How long have u been trying? If ur under 35 and not been trying for a year, they do normally turn u away for a while. If ur over 35 they will often do something after 6 months of ttc.
Go for it, u have nothing to lose, good luck xx

Thanks so much for replies!

Have been trying since Sept 2011 with a very brief spell back on the pill (literally a few packets) in Jan 2013 as I was losing my mind and needed a break.

I might just get DH his own appointment then by the sounds of it.

Sad and excited rolled into one...
