BFP after ectopic...help....

Hi everyone

In short, I had an ectopic last November and have been ttc since Feb. Today is the day before my period is due and I have done2 internet and 1 FRER tests - all have come up positive, the FRER one particularly strong.

my question is what should i do now? I haven't told the OH as my period isn't due till tomorrow so I don't want to tell him till I'm officially late (my own bizarre logic). If it's still positive tomorrow what should i do? I'm not in pain, had a few small cramps but hardly anything, but also i haven't had any preg symptoms so I'm finding it hard to believe it. If i did go to the doctor, would there be any point in me going to the EPU at this stage??

going a bit mad here....!

I got my BFP 13 months after my ectopic, called GP straight away and was referred to EPU to get first available app for an internal scan at 6 weeks to check foetus was in the right place, then another scan 10 days later to check on heartbeat.

Congratulations :)

Have been in exactly the same position to so here to hand hold more than anything - and to tell you that after mine I went on to have a second DS!

So - first, congratulations. Second, do speak to your doctor. If he/she is any good they will completely understand that you will be anxious this time round given your terrible experience last time.

I had an EPU at 8 weeks due to having a previous ectopic so if you do go to the doctors ask to be referred and booked in for a scan at 8-10 weeks to get the ball rolling.

Good luck!

thanks both of you. good to hear some positive stories. initially i was very excited but now starting to feel scared...
do either of you or anyone else know what is the earliest they can scan to see if it's in the right place? is it 6 weeks?

Just popping on to say that my GP told me that as soon as I get a BFP, they will contact the EPU and they will arrange for me to go in and have an internal scan straight away to ensure pg is in the right place.

My Ectopic was never confirmed, they just couldn't actually find the pregnancy but because I didn't get a BFP until immediately after my (what seemed like a normal) AF, they thought it might have been a possibility. I MCd naturally so they never did find out.

I am still waiting for my post-MC BFP, 12 months later Sad.

Congratulations and keeping things crossed for you that it will all be OK.

Yeah, they told me 6 weeks was the earliest they would do a scan, as it is the earliest they would be able to see anything.

blargl · 20/06/2013 09:27

thanks guys. I went to the EPU yesterday and had a blood test (hcg 495) - then have to go back tomorrow for another one to see if it's doubling, then if it it is they will arrange a scan for when it looks like the hcg should be 2500+ as apparently that is when you should be able to see something on the scan. going mad waiting for tomorrow and i know it will be even worse when i am waiting for the results!

katniss, that's similar to mine - i had a bfp 10 days after what i thought was a normal AF. only tested because i had a weird spot of bleeding on CD10 which i was not expectinf. i reckon AF came as normal because the pg wasn't in the uterus, it was in the tube - so there was nothing to stop the womb lining shedding. the thing that is keeping me going this time is AF is now 2 days late. fx there is something in there.

Hi just checking back to see how you are getting on.
I well remember the feeling of waiting for that first scan after the ectopic.
I wish I could fast forward time for you. :)

blargl · 20/06/2013 17:13

Thanks terra. I haven't been thinking about the scan yet, more fixated on the blood test tomorrow. I have done a few extra sneaky tests and the line seems to be getting darker, plus I haven't had any bleeding so I am hopeful. But it's a very very weird feeling.

Thanks champagne, I asked a bit more on the phone and she said they'll work out when hcg should be over 2500 and arrange a scan for then as apparently that's the number it needs to be before you can be sure you should see something. That's why they suspected ectopic last time as I had 3000+ hcg but nothing on scan.
Good to hear your scan went well. I can imagine it's a big relief :)
