I had to be referred to a specialist clinic to have my Mirena removed as my strings had never been visible since insertion and although my GP had tried to remove it by putting a searching device inside my womb (very uncomfortable) she too couldn't find it.
When I went to the clinic they gave me an ultrasound in order to locate it, put, lay me down, put my legs in stirrups and then proceeded to do the removal under the guidance of the ultrasound device which they kept on my abdomen.
It wasn't the most pleasant of experiences, in some ways it hurt more coming out than it did going in. I had my Husband with me, squeezing my hand so I just gritted my teeth and let them get on with it. All I thought of was the baby we will hopefully be getting and it made the pain easier to bear.
We have only DTD once since I had it removed (I had to wait for my Cardiologist to give me the 'Go Ahead') and I'm already I'm thinking, "Could I be pregnant?" Silting I know.
I actually want to have a period so we have a starting point as to when to calculate the fertile days. My last period was about the 20th of April, finished about the 27th and then we DTD on 15th of June. But, who knows if that means anything seeing as my cycle may be all over the place following Mirena removal.
I would kind of expect to have a period by the middle of next week. I never kept track of my cycle whilst I was on the Mirena as my periods were so light they barely seemed worth paying attention to, especially as TTC was the last thing on our minds x x
