hi all - I am so confused here. My periods are all over the place since had this out. Thought was on a 27 day cycle, and then last month it dropped to 24 which meant that af should have arrived yesterday but nothing... and negative hpt..

Has anyone else had experience of this after having coil removed?

Thanks
Liz x

I think you mean Mirena IUD as I've never come across a Minerva coil.
I have had one for 2 years and don't have regular periods. I don't plan anymore children when I eventually have it removed either. Sorry - I can't answer your question.

Hi Liz

I had the mirena coil removed in april and have so far had a 27 day cycle and a 29 day cycle but everything has seemed pretty normal. A lot of womens cycles differ from month to month so i doubt the IUD has anything to do with this, our body's just like to make things more difficult and confusing for us i think! As long as its between 21-35 days its pretty average.

I had my Mirena removed about 3 weeks ago and am still waiting for my first period to arrive. I had the most horrendous periods before insertion and the Mirena was a Godsend. I'm dreading my 'normal' periods starting up again. Never mind. It will be interesting to see what my cycles are like now....hopefully I won't have to put up with them for too long though seeing as I'm TTC.

WillowsTree · 17/06/2013 19:14

I had mirena removed to ttc dc#1. I had the most horrendous period about 4 days after. Conceived straight after this which was a relief as didn't want to live through that every month! I am about to have my second coil taken out next month to ttc #2. Have no idea what to expect this time round as I never have regular periods now.

Hope you get some positive results soon.

Hi all,

I'm having my coil removed this Thursday. Feeling really nervous, and not sure what to expect. This was my second coil, so I've not had a period for around 8 years. Hoping to ttc from September, just worried about my body not returning to normal.

We already have a dd aged 9.

Good luck everyone Smile

LizW36 · 18/06/2013 09:18

Ive no idea whats going on to be honest. Before had my coil in (four years ago) was regular as clockwork on my cycle, now its just gone to pot. Had coil taken out beginning of march, had three cycles but now nothing!

Good luck ladies... ! xx

I had to be referred to a specialist clinic to have my Mirena removed as my strings had never been visible since insertion and although my GP had tried to remove it by putting a searching device inside my womb (very uncomfortable) she too couldn't find it.

When I went to the clinic they gave me an ultrasound in order to locate it, put, lay me down, put my legs in stirrups and then proceeded to do the removal under the guidance of the ultrasound device which they kept on my abdomen.

It wasn't the most pleasant of experiences, in some ways it hurt more coming out than it did going in. I had my Husband with me, squeezing my hand so I just gritted my teeth and let them get on with it. All I thought of was the baby we will hopefully be getting and it made the pain easier to bear.

We have only DTD once since I had it removed (I had to wait for my Cardiologist to give me the 'Go Ahead') and I'm already I'm thinking, "Could I be pregnant?" Silting I know.

I actually want to have a period so we have a starting point as to when to calculate the fertile days. My last period was about the 20th of April, finished about the 27th and then we DTD on 15th of June. But, who knows if that means anything seeing as my cycle may be all over the place following Mirena removal.

I would kind of expect to have a period by the middle of next week. I never kept track of my cycle whilst I was on the Mirena as my periods were so light they barely seemed worth paying attention to, especially as TTC was the last thing on our minds x x

LizW36 · 18/06/2013 11:42

I know what you mean. I had no periods at all when I had the coil in. I had two really heavy and painful ones in March and April (27 day cycle) then May was much more 'normal' and dropped to 24 days.. but so far I am now 27 days into the cycle and nothing. I dont have a clue now when am ovulating etc. I had signs of period coming last week but nothing and the hpt was negative. So will leave it another couple of days and go and see the docs I think.

I feel like I am getting obssessed with it all!

I had my mirena removed, had one period and got pregnant, so don't worry about your body having to adjust!

Writerwannabe83 · 18/06/2013 11:51

About 2 days after having it removed I bled very lightly, more like spotting really, which lasted about 3-4 days and I assumed this to be due to the internal trauma of having it removed....but then wondered why if that was the case, why hasn't the bleeding started straight away. But. I also knew it couldn't be a period as I had only had my period a week ago.

So very strange - I just hate all the guess work and hypothesising. That's why I want a period, lol.

LizW36 · 18/06/2013 12:09

God I know... who knew we would be looking forward to having a period!!! I had that too straight away, a very very light bleed but lasted just couple of days.

I am sick of looking at ovulation calendars etc wondering if we got it right this month or not! xx

It is such a stressful time isn't it - I don't know how you all cope. I have only been trying for 4 days and already I feel like I'm obsessed Smile

Here's to hoping the BFP comes quickly x x

gintastic · 18/06/2013 12:41

I had a mirena between DD1 and DD, took me 4 months to conceive when I had it taken out. Had another between DS and DD2, was pregnant 2 weeks after I had it taken out. I have another in now - this one is staying in, thank you very much! Good luck...

LizW36 · 20/06/2013 11:42

Well af appeared on 26 day cycle this month. So no joy again! :-( I know its only been three months of proper trying, but seems like forever. I am also worried my age is against me (37 next month)... but guess will keep on trying!!

I work with a woman who works for a Sexual Health Clinic and she said it can take up to 6 months after Mirena removal before the womb can home a fertilised egg. She explained that as the Mirena coil strips down the uterus's blood lining (hence why periods can typically stop) it can then take a good few months before it builds itself back up again and becomes thick enough to allow an egg to embed itself.

It is now 31 days into my cycle and no period yet. No stomach aches/cramps or pains either.

I'm really wishing I had paid more attention to my periods whilst the Mirena was in place as at least I'd know what was normal and what wasn't in terms of when to expect my period.

I'm sorry AF made an appearance - I imagine it must be so disheartening. I think I will be a nervous wreck each month. Like you said, 3 months of trying isn't long but I'm sure it feels like an eternity to you.

Fingers crossed for next time x x x

BartBaby · 20/06/2013 22:08

Since having mine out i had an initial 4 day af. Then the last 2 months af has only lasted 2 days. Reading the last posts concerns me slightly in that maybe im not building up enough of a lining for the egg to stick and thats why im not bleeding much for af as there isnt much to shed....

It sounds plausable... Hmmm Hmm

I hope it isnt the reason why though! Sad

Writerwannabe83 · 21/06/2013 08:04

But, on the flip side, if it is the reason at least it will be something that should self resolve over the next few months.

When I had my Coil in my periods would still last about 5 days, the first 3 days would be like a light period and then the final days would be spotting. Those first few days would still be heavy enough though to justify tampons/pads at night though (tmi?!) so I will be intrigued as to how they will be now.

I'm on day 31 of my cycle now and no signs yet of my period arriving. I just don't like the waiting game. I wish it would hurry up!!

BartBaby · 21/06/2013 12:58

Thats why i dont like the 2ww knowing its all been decided in there whether its stuck or not, and me not knowing! I just like to know one way or the other.

I will give it a few more months and see how af goes. Im off on holiday in september so its not the end of the qorld if it hasnt happened by then as it will be nice to have a few Wine in the sunshine! Grin

I hope you get af soon so you can get on with the next cycle Smile

Writerwannabe83 · 21/06/2013 18:54

Thanks Bart Baby - had some signs today that AF is imminent so the excitement is building!! Smile x

BartBaby · 04/07/2013 21:28

How is everyone doing on here?

I had another 2 day af this month. So went to the gp and she didnt seem overly concerned. She reckons that it can sometimes take a few months for the hormones to get back to normal after having the coil removed. So i suppose its just different for everyone! Were sort of having well trying to but im sure i will still be checking dates and what not! a couple of months off from the ttc as were going on holiday in september and it would be quite nice to have a few drinks in the sunshine, and also had quite bad morning sickness with ds and dont want to ruin the holiday for everyone! So hopefully it will have sorted it out by the time we come back.

Just wondered how everyone else is getting on?
