Hi I'm just after a bit of advice from someone more knowledgable than me (probably all of you!) My cycles are usually 28-31 days and I've not used opk's yet so don't know when I ovulate - I'm looking out for signs this month. From what cycle day should I start dtd, and when is it probably ok to stop? I'm going for every 2 days this month and hoping for the best!

It really does depend as you could ovulate whenever. I think if you were doing sticks they would say to test from about cd7 - cd20 so that time period might be the best for DTD. It's gonna be tiring!

Hi Fox.

I used a website called countdowntopregnancy.com and on there the have a calculator for telling you just that. I think this link should work www.countdowntopregnancy.com/tools/intercourse_timing_calculator.php

Fox82 · 16/06/2013 08:43

Thank you both! I just had a look at the link 2be and looks like I've been doing ok so far this month so will keep using it. I've been tracking with ovufriend too which seems to be helping.

The medical advice is to try for every other day, or 2-3 times a week.

Sperm can live for up to 5 days, but the egg will only survive for 12-24 hours after ovulation. So it's better to have a constant supply of swimmers hanging around Grin

CD14 and CD16 I've managed to DTD this month. No idea if that's the ideal timing, but will see...

gintastic · 16/06/2013 17:31

My friend who is a gynaecologist said if your cycle is 28 days, then DTD every other day for 10 days, starting on the 10th day after your period starts. We tried this for one month and the result has just been sick down my back...

FrankellyMyDearIDontGiveADamn · 16/06/2013 17:41

The problem is most women don't have a 28 day cycle. I believe anything between 24 and 35 days is "normal".

Personally, with Polycystic ovaries, mine can vary between 29 and 100+!

IrnBruTheNoo · 16/06/2013 17:47

My cycle length is usually between 24 and 30 days. True, it does vary widely between women.

GingerJulep · 16/06/2013 18:29

We did it every day the month we conceived (did it most days the previous month when we started trying but missed the useful ones moving house!).

But on the days that are most effective you'll feel like it more. (Pretty sure our bump is due to the day I jumped OH twice before work. it shouldn't feel too much like a task you're doing to get preggers - should be fun too!)

I'd say listen to your body (and spend as much time as possible feeling appropriate things towards your OH as that will help filter out any 'noise' of other emotions.)

Or you can take your temp, count days etc.

IrnBruTheNoo · 16/06/2013 22:14

Haha, DTD every day. No chance! Not got the energy for that!

Fox82 · 16/06/2013 22:57

Thanks all! Dtd on cd days 10, 12 and 14 so far this month. Going to try to keep dtd every other day until cd 20/22 if we can will probably give up by then Unfortunately we wouldn't be able to dtd every day either as we would find that more of a task than fun, but good for you if you can! Hope this month I'm as lucky as you were gintastic

So far we've dtd on cd's 10,12, 14 and 15 and not sure if/when i ovulated. Today I've had a stitch kind of pain in my left side which I've never had before. It's worrying me that it could be a bad sign! Has anyone had this before? It could just be to do with feeling ill though as had a high temp yesterday??

ThoraNomiki · 19/06/2013 19:57

Is the stitch pain really low in your abdomen where you might expect ovaries or womb to be? It could be ovulation pain - a good sign. I had this 14 days before AF arrived this month but hadn't managed to DTD nearly enough

Fox82 · 19/06/2013 20:05

I guess it's possible - AF is due in exactly 14 days! Will make sure we dtd tonight! Wink. Just worries me as I've never felt it before. It was that uncomfortable that I felt I had to sit down a few times as when I stood it felt worse.

Fx for bfp for you next month!

The stitch pain might be ovulation pains, but then again it might just be an ordinary stitch! Not everyone gets ovulation pains, but it might be that you are just more aware of your body now.

blueamber · 19/06/2013 20:07

Don't worry! Could be ovulation pain as Thora said. You can get it just before or during ovulation. As you haven't had it before, is this your first cycle where ovulation is taking place (for instance after the pill)?

Fox82 · 19/06/2013 20:15

Thanks blue. No I've not been on the pill for years so my cycles should be fine. Maybe it's just something to do with my virus?!?! Or maybe phantom pain from paying too much attention to my body now I'm ttc Hmm
