TTC second baby when still breastfeeding

I haven't had a period since I gave birth and I want to keep breastfeeding my baby until she is at least 1yo (currently 7mo). DH and I want to start ttc in January and at that point I plan to be doing morning and evening feeds only as I'll be back at work.

I know it seems silly to be worrying about this now but DH has to change his medication for a chronic condition because it could affect the baby and the medication he has stopped takes 6 months to clear from his system. I don't to change if we don't have a chance to conceive because of the breastfeeding.

I know you can get pregnant whilst breastfeeding - the midwife and HV were very clear about continuining to use contraception when I wasn't even thinking about having sex but how likely/unlikely is it to conceive?

I breastfed my daughter till she was 15 months old and never used contraception (unless you count the sleepless nights ;)). My period returned at around 8 months when I was feeding around 3 times a day. At 10 months I was down to once a day and fell pregnant.

It does happen but obviously is more likely once your period returns. Good luck!
