I need some advice...BFP the day after my period.

I have been ttc post MC for almost 11 months. This is my second month using the clearblue fertility monitor. I turned it on (day 7) and it asked for a stick, so I did one and straight away 2 dark lines appeared which is weird as this didnt/doesn't happen til around day 14 usually. Anyway my reading was low.

Just out of curiosity I did a cheap opk straight after and again two dark lines. I do not ovulate this early in a 30 day cycle surely.

So I did a cheap pg test, well 2, and there is a definite line on both. I only finished my period yesterday. I was pg testing pretty much untill I came on, all bfn. What is going on? Has this happened to anyone else? Im so worried I've had another miscarriage as on day 1 when 'af arrived' it was heavy with cramps so I wouldn't class this as an implantation bleed.

Please come and talk to me I am freaking out!!

Looks indeed like you might have had a chem. it makes sense in fact that you did not get a positive when looking for it, because it was not a strong and viable pregnancy. There is of course the wild chance that you implanted late, af came, but pg held on and is getting stronger. But honestly, much more probable is your tests will return to negative. If they remain weak positive, you should go to doctor, because there are medical conditions which give you a positive, when you are not pregnant. But the most probable scenario is you did have chemical pregnancy. Test again, say every other day and see what happens. But above all things, calm down. There is nothing you can do right now than to wait and see.

Thanks for replying. Yes I am suspecting chemical pregnancy too...the lines aren't exactly faint so at least I will hopefully be able to see a gradual decrease in strength if that is the case. Back to square one.

My experience says lines get to equal color around hcg level of 500 on most tests. If test line is still weaker, you are below. In that case there is no chance of retained tissue at least, so it does usually go away itself with no intervention.

At levels of hgc 500 what would that be in weeks/days past ovulation?

You really can not tell. Usually people get to 500 before 5 weeks is up, but everybody is different. Average for 19dpo was around 600, I read on beta base I think, but the variety for that week goes from 20 to 2000 and all can be normal. You can not judge from beta the conception time even for a same woman with previous pregnancy experience, yet alone in general

Could be break-through bleeding! Does not sound like classic chemical pregnancy. Or could just be heavy implantation bleeding. I would think there is still hope that this pregnancy could work out for you. I hope so.

I am trying not to get my hopes up at all and just assume the worst for my own sanity really.

I did a CB digital yesterday and it came up pregnant straight away, 2 - 3 weeks. I was expecting 1 - 2 to be honest. Just so hard not knowing for definite.

Im going to do a cheap pg test every/other day to see if line changes before I get bloods done as can't go Drs til tomorrow. Did one this morning and its pretty dark. Certainly not faint anyway.

My first thought was breakthrough bleeding aswell. However, I am certainly no expert and other people seem to know what they are talking about. I just wanted to wish you luck as we are also ttc and about to start our second month using opks. It's mentally exhausting!

A friend of mine had exactly this and is now 28 weeks' pregnant.

Her first early scan showed 2 sacs but 1 baby, so they think the bleeding was the loss of the twin.

I obviously can't promise this is the same for you, but good luck.

Do you have an EPU you can self refer to for assistance?

I am not sure about self referring, can you usually do that at most EPU's?

My friend had bleeding (like periods) for the few few months. You defo need to get yourself down to the docs to confirm what's happening. Best of luck x

I think the only way you can know for sure either way is rising hcg blood tests or a scan but a scan would not show much for definite for a week or so I dont think.

It depends on your EPU. Mine is self referring, but I know some aren't.

where in the country are you? Somebody on here self referred to st thomas's the other day- I was well impressed, she was back with an update within a couple of hours. But thats central London x

Get yourself to the drs. Even if its a chemical (which I hope it's not) its best to get it on your records as it may help you get referred quicker to the recurrent mc clinic.
In one of my unsuccessful pregnancies with implantation bleeding the bfp did not register until the bleeding had stopped. That one I mc at 11 weeks I think but an early scan showed I had ov twice so the twin theory could have held.
I'm in London to and self referred to epu at uch on a few occasions.

Can you go to out of hours GP today and get referred? Better than waiting til tomorrow, I'd have thought.

Again, it's a shame there's no consistency around the country re EPUs. :-/

Have you tried mums in Solihull? Im not sure if they are open today but they do blood tests and early viability scans. Its private though x

I've had a couple of chemical pregnancies and a couple of miscarriages and this doesn't sound like either. I think the main thing which is strange is the lack of positive tests beforehand and how strong the positives are now, how quickly they are coming up and how they didn't appear until after your period. Usually with a chemical pregnancy you'd expect an early positive, low levels of hcg, possibly a mix of bfn and bfps and then a rapid shift to bfns following a normal or slightly later/heavier period. Of course to every rule etc etc.

Retesting will tell you nothing as faintness of lines can be affected by too many factors. You do need to see a dr but I think there's no quick resolution to this. They'll do blood tests first I expect and a scan (if conception is from last cycle) would still be fairly inconclusive.

If you have any more bleeding or pain or feel ill then see somebody asap but for now, I'd wait and see a gp tomorrow and get a referral.

You can self-refer to a BabyBond clinic. Google them. They are all over the country and offer private scans from very early days. About £90 if I remember rightly, they were brilliant for me

Just to say do not go for an early scan yet, they are notoriously unreliable in early pregnancy, you are only around 5 weeks, they may see nothing even with a good viable pregnancy (it depends on the tilt of the uterus).

Consecutive blood tests 48 hours apart, are your best at the moment if you are looking for some reassurance (levels ideally will double in less than 72 hours, but is a little variable for different pregnancies so again, need to be taken just looking to see if the levels are falling as apposed to what rate of doubling.)

I am really pleased to hear that your hcg levels are indicating 2-3 weeks, this is very positive. My best advice is to just take one day at a time, and repeat the mantra "today I am pregnant" regularly and try not to think ahead.

Update - Been to Drs this morning. Had bloods taken, got to go back on Monday for repeat bloods to check if hcg is rising or not. Wont get results untill a week tomorrow. Seems like such a long time!!

Monday? That is not right hg levels should be checked 48 /72 hours apart to check if they double. I would ring the doctors again.
