I just bought a bunch of supplements to boost my health while TTC and DH thinks I'm nutty says I'm just "being an American" (um sorry I AM American! Can't help it!)

I'm planning to add in b12 (I'm vegetarian), krill oil for omega 3s, vitamin D and folinic acid (like folic acid but supposedly better for body to absorb), and a general prenatal. Have also been taking folic acid irregularly for the last month or so.

What supplements are you doing?

K8eee · 05/05/2013 17:52

Ha I mean folic!

maybemyrtle · 05/05/2013 17:53

We're taking these when we remember. I also take Floradix when run down.

Doesn't your prenatal include some of those extras already?

PotteringAlong · 05/05/2013 17:53

Nothing.

And I've already had 3 glasses of wine today :)

I took a conception formula. If you're going to take a bunch of different ones, just make they'll all still be safe when you do get pregnant. The main thing to look at is vitamin A content.

Folic acid should ideally be consistently taken for three months pre-conception. Vitamin D is recommended throughout pregnancy so wouldn't hurt before. A conception or pregnancy multivitamin would cover you for these.

Yeah prenatal includes them, but the amounts are too small to really do anything. Thanks for your answers everyone, looks like I am being a crazy american as expected ;)

Hi Op

I had a mc in March 2013 and so wanted to give my body the best chance possible to get pregnant and help the baby with a boast in vitamins etc. So before getting BFP (right through mc too) this month I was taking:

  • Floradix for iron
  • Viridian Fertility Pro-Conception vitamins (has alots of good stuff including required a,out of vitamin D, Folic etc.)
  • Sola Homocysteine modulators
-Omega 3 Krill Oil

All the vitamins are natural with no nasty chemical compounds..

Following BFP I replaced Viridian Fertility Pro-Conception vitamins with Solar Pre-natal vitamins. Still taking all the others as well.

I also made my other half take Viridian Fertility (for men) Potency tablets whilst ttc.

So you are not on your own... Wink

LittlePeaPod · 06/05/2013 21:41

By the way, I am a crazy British... Wink

ananikifo · 06/05/2013 22:17

Am I a crazy Canadian? I didn't think there were national stereotypes about taking vitamins!

I did start a fish oil supplement once I was pregnant.

LittlePeaPod · 06/05/2013 22:26

I thought Op was been light heartily facetious about the stereotype comment.. I certainly was about the Crazy Brit not the vitamins.. Took/taking all of those. Smile

Op, I forgot to mention I am also taking Solar Natural fibre tablets... I am rattling like a smarties tube....

CrazyLottie · 08/05/2013 00:38

I am taking Pregnacare Conception, vitamin B6, Agnus Cactus, baby aspirin and Ferrograd C (slow-release iron + vitamin C). The iron isn't really for conception, just because I get too tired to survive the day without it!

I also take Robitussin a couple of hours before DTD.
