Hi all. Just vacated the May bus to hop across to this super flying bus if that's OK. Had 5 days of spotting which was unusual for me but now AF has arrived with a vengeance Sad Anyway, I've brought homemade choc brownies for anyone who feels as rough as I do right now (and also anyone who doesn't!)

Stats are:

ImaginaryHat ttc#1 cycle 2 bfp due 10th June x

Imaginaryhat! I've been expecting you Wink welcome aboard!
I'm also in the presence of AF right now after having a 48 day cycle last month! Trying to get back to normal after coming off the pill... Hopefully this cycle will be better! Good luck Smile

Thanks Champagnebubble it does seem that way doesn't it. Might join you in that Wine when I have my spag bol in a while!

PS gilly I've never seen anyone so happy as you to get AF as you this month, such a long wait for you! Was nearly as happy for you as I was for people announcing their bfp's Grin

Fx for a super fertile June bus!

Lol thanks!!!! Wink
It was a long wait.. Felt like forever. I know there are ladies that have had much longer cycles but it was very unexpected and abnormal so I was not happy at all!
DH was getting bored of me saying "I'm still not on my period!" Every day!

Got good feelings about June/July! Lets do this Smile

Just spent the afternoon with a good friend and their 4 month old baby - lovely! It took them 2 years to conceive so gives me hope that it's all possible but much patience needed!

Thank you gilly the SMEP sounds like a good idea, going to suggest it to DH now. I haven't used ovulation sticks before but I have brought some ready for my next cycle! Just waiting for AF to start which should be this week.

Good luck everyone.

champagnebubble - are your OPKs the ones where you have to look for the darkness of a line or are they smiley face ones? Although much cheaper I found the line ones hard to work out and prefer the smiley face ones. Give it a couple of cycles though to see what you think, although hopefully you won't need to do more than one cycle. Smile

Just had an email saying mine have been despatched too so should be here tomorrow, along with my 20 ic pg tests for my obsessive poas!

I've been using opk's for a few months before starting ttc from about cd11 and getting positives between day 15-18, although I usually get af for about 6-7 days so maybe start a bit sooner if your periods are shorter? (*disclaimer - this 'advice' is based on no scientific fact whatsoever and only what seems logical in my head, if someone else says differently then they are almost certainly right!)

I seem to have settled into a 33 day cycle so I personally start about day 13, expecting a positive around day 19/20. Maybe start around CD8 to make sure as pretty unlikely you would ovulate before then. I think the leaflet states CD6 for a 28 day cycle which I suppose for thoroughness is what you should do but these companies obviously want you to use as many sticks as possible!

Report
ImaginaryHat · 13/05/2013 16:33

That sounds v similar to the ic ones I'm using (getting definite strong lines following a day or two of fainter lines so I've not used the clearblue ones before.) Just had a look at the instructions from an old pack and it has a chart, for a 28 day cycle says day 11, for 29 day 12 etc so seems to tally with what yours say. You're probably right Gillster about them wanting you to use a lot of sticks!

No I'm only officially on cycle 2 so not bothering with temping at the moment (seems like a hassle to me too!) so just gonna see how it goes over the next few cycles, and if no luck then will probably start. Hopefully we won't need to!

Report
Gillster · 13/05/2013 17:26

I've never bothered with temping as too much hassle and seems unnecessary if the OPKs work fine. Also the temp drop is after ovulation so you'd have to do a few cycles first to predict when you would ovulate so you know to have sex before the expected temperature drop. I think using the SMEP with the OPKs pretty much covers all bases and you can't do much more. A positive from the OPKs generally backs up what my body is doing around ovulation too (EWCM plus slight cramping) so that's enough for me although not everyone may experience this.

I'm temping as well because I like to continue dtd as much as poss at least until my temp has gone up+stayed up so i know I've DEFINITELY ovulated!

Last month I had positive OPKs a few times and possibly due to stress/nightshifts I didn't actually ovulate... I think sometimes your body can gear up for OV but then not actually do it. I ended up ovulating much later in the month and over 10 days AFTER my first positive OPK!

Good to know.

So basically I will be doing SMEP AND temping from now on cos I guess there is a risk that you COULD get a positive OPK but not actually ovulate... And you could end up ovulating maybe a week or so later by which time you may have already stopped dtd thinking that you've already ovulated when you haven't!
