Ttc #1 very irregular periods

Trying to conceive for 6 months now and no sign :( periods are very irregular I have an app and one cylckr can be 30 days the next one could be 50. Feeling very disheartened and worried. I am 29 and my partner is 25. Have been to the doctors they have done preliminary tests which were all ok. Any advice??

I am also overweight is this affecting fertility?

It appears all my friends get pregnant within a week!

Did they scan your ovaries at all? Do you know if you are ovulating? When ttc all my blood tests looked normal to GP but specialist Gynaecologists and Endocrinologist thought differently (!) plus series of scans picked up PCOS which was swiftly dealt with by taking metformin. If you've been trying for more than a year ask for a referral. (Happy ending - I now have 2 DSs - hope same for you x)

Hi there.. I was in a similar position to you.. irregular, weight gain. I got scanned for Polycystic Ovaries. All came back clear but no joy months on. So I booked a specialist. The month I was due to go for laparoscopy for further checks I found out I was expecting. I had totally lost hope. I suppose what I am saying is don't lose hope but be practical. Get help. Also DTD every day from day ten - next AF. Sorry for TMI but it is hard to pinpoint ovulation.

I've also been TTC for about 5mths with no luck! i'm using the 'my days' app and debating ovulation sticks for next month!

Thank you for your help. They tested for PCOS and not sure if they're steroid ovulation. Would irregular periods mean I don't ovulate? And if so can that be fixed? I'm a bit of a worrier as well which doesn't help

What tests did you have done and on which days?. It could be that the blood test results were misinterpreted. Not all GPs by any means are up to date on such issues and I think you were fobbed off.

Long cycles like yours are often caused by hormonal imbalances; blood tests should be done to see if there are problems with the thyroid gland or if there is a condition called polycystic ovaries/PCOS. I would return to this practice and if they remain unhelpful then change GP practices.

You should be referred to a subfertility unit, you need a diagnosis first and foremost.

It is all too easy to be fobbed off and you will need to be persistent in order to get answers.

I still think they've missed something with regards to your tests.

What exactly did they test?.

You are less likely to be ovulating regularly if at all with irregular cycles. A "normal" cycle is a cycle length of between 21 and 35 days or with less than 4 days of variation from month to month.

They have tested for thyroid and PCOS all clear. So what happens if I don't ovulate? I have ovulation sticks but are hard to read

They've missed something here and they need to refer you to someone who may well know what they are doing. You should be referred to a subfertility unit.

How did they test for both your thyroid and PCOS?. What hormone levels did they look at?.

Would refrain from using any OPK currently because of your irregular cycle; these will certainly not help you any.

I think if you wasn't ovulating you wouldn't have periods at all. Because your periods are irregular it might be a good idea to do the deed every 2-3 days and use the ovulation sticks. x

My GP "ruled out" PCOS from my blood tests but the specialist disagreed! Specialist was right......plus unless they have done a scan to look at the ovaries they can't really tell. I also had a test for insulin resistance (part of PCOS) and it was actually this test that proved it. You need a referral to Gynae/fertility. Try not to worry - there are still lots of avenues - if you aren't ovulating then clomid can help and if it is PCOS then metformin can help.
