pregnancy tests - is the more expensice the better?

Hi all,
Im trying to get pregnant at the moment and when the moment comes to test it, I wanted to know if the more expensive tests are the most effective they are? If the ones from the pound shop are the same effectiveness as the more expensive (clearblue ECT) then ill opt for the cheaper one lol! Just don't want to get a false reading just because i didn't pay the extra couple of quid!

No, the cheapo ones are great.

Cheapie ones from ebay were fine for me (as were the opk tests!)

With DC1 I insisted on Clearblue Digital. With DC2 I bought a cheapy pack from Wilkinsons. Both did the job perfectly well but one cost me bloody 13quid!

Not in my experience.
I used a clear blue test that tells you how many weeks you are - tested negative
Tried a cheaply asda one next day & was positive

I got 15 early response ones from amazon for about £3. They're exactly the same as the more expensive ones, but without all the plastic casing. I tested for days after getting a BFP to check the line was getting darker!

Expensive ones you're paying for packaging. In fact the cheaper ones are often more sensitive.

I have always found the super cheapo ones to be best. I think the fact you dip them in a sample for a set number of seconds is better than hit and miss pissing which you can't time. i used the ultra sensitive 10miu tests that you can buy online - they have been accurate for me at 12 days post ovulation, so 3 days before period due. i'd imagine they might work a bit earlier but you'd really be squinting at a very pale line! You can buy them from amazon/ebay/home health. I got 50 at a time to indulge my stick pissing habit.

Of course, any time i got a bfp, I wiped out all my previous savings on tests by going out to superdrug and buying lots of expensive sticks to piss on. But nobody wants to spend a tenner and get a negative result!

I actually bought ones from a Pound shop for Ds3. They were a bit like the strips the gp tests your wee with. The second one was positive so cost me £2

I have mixed feelings about this. The cheap ones are great for peering away freely - I TTC'd for a long time and the cost of testing gets ridiculous! However when I did get a BFP, the cheap one was quite faint and fuzzy and slow to appear (within the time frame but towards the three minute mark). they left me thinking Eh? Is that positive?!. I did two that looked similar and then went out and bought first response early response tests which came up clearly, immediately.

Certainly the really expensive ones like Clearblue are not superior. In fact they are less sensitive and can give you a false negative! I didn't do a clearblue until AF was 3 days late! Er yes I did lots of tests

My choice was to invest in plenty of Internet cheapies then go out and buy more expensive tests when the cheapies showed a BFP.

Go cheap and keep an expensive one for when you get a BFP on a cheap one.

You can test all you want that way and not worry.

The cheap ones are not much different to the expensive ones other than often detecting a lower amount of HCg.

As long as you read at the correct time as if left you can mix up a bfp with a evap line.

I used a Boots own brand one - ace. And you can dip it in a pot of your wee rather than weeing straight on it, if you're like me and rubbish at weeing on a stick.

I got my BFP with a poundland twin pack!

I got a massive load from ebay. Worked just fine. As others have said, I backed them up with a "commercial" one once I got a number of positives several days running with the cheapie ones.

Superdrug gave me my last two bfps after trying clear blue and first response.

They are all meant to be the same but it's bs. Some are just better at showing they've picked up pregnancy level hgc.

Does anyone know how sensitive FRER ones are? I had a fairly faint positive with one this morning and then a total negative on an eBay cheapie this eve.. The eBay one says sensitivity was 10u/ml..

Planning to retest in morning with my last FRER!

Lord knows how our Mothers generation coped... No over the counter tests.. Had to visit gp and wait for result to come back from hospital lab!!

50 years ago they had to go and inject your first morning urine into a female rabbit didn't they? They see how she behaved? You wouldn't get a licence to do that these days, thank heavens for cheapy internet tests...

No the rabbit was killed to see if blood spots were on a perticular organ.

The ovaries apparently.
