Unsure of when I conceived

Hi there, I'm new to this site but signed up to try and get some advice. I've recently found out that I'm pregnant with a home pregnancy test but I'm not sure of how far gone I would be. I wasnt on the pill during january but was with my partner, I then had a period on the 30th of January so started my pill the following day. I messed it up and missed a few. I was a day out somehow and missed days 10 & 11 and then 18, 20 & 21...i had spotting right up until about 4/5 days before my 7 day break was due (on the 21st of feb) I didnt bleed on my 7 day break and had a hunch that I was pregnant, so I didn't go back on my pill...i took several pregnancy tests throughout march which all came back negative, but i still hadnt had any bleeding so i took another test on the 21st of march and it was positive!! I'm just concerned because i'm not sure when I would have conceived. I've written on my registration form (date of last period unknown) and the woman at the hospital said they would do a dating scan...but what is this? Does this mean that I won't have the usual 12 week scan?? I don't want to have a really early scan and then they cant do the checks properly. Me and my partner are over the moon and we already feel so protective of our little bean. Any advice or others experiences would be great.

Thankyou so much x

12 week scan is usually a dating and a how many are in there scan. I don't know if you'll get one earlier or not andi don't know if that means you won't get a 12 week scan. 20 week scan is the anomaly scan to check everything is ok with baby so you would still have that whatever happens.

You wouldn't get a positive until you are at least 10-14 days post ovulation. Average time from first day of period to ovulation is 14 days (ignoring the fact that you haven't been average).

So at the point of a first positive test you would normally considered to be four weeks pregnant, but you could be more. Your dating scan at 8-12 weeks will be very accurate. So you should have the scan 4-8 weeks after your positive. They might want to do it at more like 8 weeks as you may actually be more far along and they might want to establish that.

Hope that helps.

When I fell pregnant with my DD it was a similar situation - messed up pill taking, last period unknown so they sent me for a dating scan 3 weeks after positive test. I was 9 weeks pregnant at the scan. I then had the nuchal scan at 14 weeks, and Anomally Scan too at around 20 weeks. You should have 3 scans in total unless you are around 12 weeks at the dating scan in which case they'll do the Nuchal checks then

Thankyou so much for ur replies Ladies!!

So borbonsandtea...did they have to book you in for a dating scan or did they just use one of the mini scan machines? Do i just tell the midwife that i messed up my pill so am unsure and she'll send me for a scan? I dont want her to just guess!! Im worrying for no reason probably but my midwives have been very slack in previous pregnancies!! x

Sorry for the late reply. You may have already heard from your Midwife..
When I called to book in they asked when my last period was. I said I don't know and told them I'd messed up taking the pill so they booked me for the dating scan for 3 weeks later. I was sent to a local clinic to have a proper scan.
Just let the midwife know you're not sure of the dates.
They prefer not to guess because they'll want to do the '12 week' scan as close to 12 weeks as possible
