My cycle varies from 5-7 weeks. How do I know when I am fertile and/or when I can POAS?

DS was a lovely surprise so I am new to all this TTC lark and it is very confusing Confused

Ovulation sticks? Chart each month?

AttilaTheMeerkat · 17/03/2013 12:26

Long cycles like this happen for a reason and that is usually due to hormonal imbalances.

I would have blood tests done to determine if anything like thyroid problems or polycystic ovaries are there so these can then be treated.

Charting and OPKs (those in particular) are pretty much useless if the menstrual cycle is generally irregular.

Exactly what Attila said. Sometimes you have to really push to get your gp to listen to you though.

I have irregular cycles and I'm in the process of finding out why. In the meantime I use the cheapie hpts from the internet every so often, just in case.

Opks are useless if you have irregular cycles. I almost never get a positive before I ovulate but somehow got a very very strong positive yesterday and I'm at the end of my cycle (and definitely not pregnant). Save your money.

Thank you wrighty, that is a helpful link.

I didn't think that charting would help, as the first question seems to be the length of your cycle!

I guess I'm just going to have to play it by ear for a few months...

in addition to getting yourself checked out medically learning about how to observe cervical mucous Will help to indicate your fertile time especially if it ties in with the ovulation kit. best of luck to you.

Whitetara · 19/03/2013 16:43

slightly back tracking. just re read the other replies but wondered if observing cm would help at all. my cycles are slightly irregular too but I've managed to get positives. I hope you get to the bottom of it .

I'm irregular and realised that my DH and I were missing the golden few days each month (our jobs don't make it easy) I bought LH fertility strips from eBay (only a few quid for about 40) so could test pretty much every day. (The ovulation tests in the shops are soooo expensive). First month - job done!!! And gave the rest to my friend that's ttc.
